The seventh issue of ‘Steelmen’ matchday magazine is on sale ahead of Motherwell’s quarter final clash with Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup.

And the programme, with a new fan-orientated approach for the 2017/18 campaign, is packed full of new content, and is available for just £2 tonight.

Writer Eddie Ferguson looks back in-depth at some of the incredible stories during John Gahagan’s time at Fir Park in his feature piece ‘John Gahagan: Turning Dreams in to Reality”.

We also take a look back at the two sides route to the quarter finals, with interviews from Carl McHugh and Andrew Considine both featured.

Updates from Stephen Robinson and a word with Derek McInnes also feature in the issue which is available to buy around the ground tonight.

To ease some of the congestion, the following turnstiles will be set up to take pre purchased tickets only:

John Hunter Stand: Turnstile Number 1

Davie Cooper Stand: Turnstile Number 1 and 2

Phil O Donnell Stand: Turnstile number 5

McEwan Fraser Legal Stand: Turnstile 1-6 will take pre purchased tickets for allocated seating

• Turnstiles 7 and 8 will take cash only  (turnstile 5-6 will double up taking cash if there is a queue at 7-8)

All supporters are encouraged to pre purchase a ticket from the ticket office and allow the appropriate time to enter the stadium on the night of the match.

Motherwell face Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup quarter-final as Stephen Robinson’s men look to extend their unbeaten run. 

And it is the Steelmen’s first League Cup quarter-final since the 2010/11 campaign, when the club beat Dundee United 1-0 at Fir Park.

Stephen Robinson’s side head in to the cup clash on the back of a good run of form, having gone four games undefeated.

And with just one stop potentially separating Motherwell from a trip to Hampden in the semi-finals, there is plenty of motivation and hunger around Fir Park.

And the manager believes a cup run can keep dreams alive around the club as the season goes on.

He said: “We’re looking forward to every game at the minute. The confidence is high among the players and it’s a big game for the football club.

“For a club like us [the cup] gives us an opportunity to give the fans something to cheer about and keeps our season on-going, otherwise the past few seasons have been mostly about battling relegation.”

With Aberdeen up next in the league on Sunday, the next few days will be a test of Motherwell’s mettle.

Robinson added: “We’re just focussed on the first game, we’ll try and get a result in the first game and then worry about the second game after that.”

The ‘Well boss has a fully fit squad, with Elliott Frear making good progress following his concussion.

However, Charles Dunne, who picked up a red card in the last-16 clash with Ross County, will be missing through suspension

And one man who will be hugely important for the Steelmen is the in-form Chris Cadden.

The 21-year-old isn’t just focussed on his own game though – as he admitted he hopes to give the people of Motherwell something to cheer about.

“People in Motherwell deserve a run in the cup cause it’s been a while since we’ve done well in any cup,” he said. “But hopefully for us and the fans we can get a day at Hampden.

“We’re just taking every game as it comes, and obviously the league is important, but it would be brilliant for us to have a run in the cup so we have to try and achieve our objective on Thursday.”

He added: “The gaffer has made sure that one of the things we need to do is make sure people hate coming to Fir Park and they’re in for a tough game – and that’s what we’ve done so far.”

Aberdeen, currently unbeaten domestically, will be tough opponents for the Steelmen though and will be hungry to repair last season’s cup heartbreak.

Despite making it to two cup finals, the Dons ended the season with no silverware – losing out to Celtic in the Scottish Cup and the Betfred Cup and they’ll undoubtedly be hungry to go one step further this term.

A number of new faces will be on show for the Reds, following a busy summer for McInnes’ side – making for an intriguing cup encounter.

Midfielder Chris Cadden believes ‘Well supporters deserve a cup run as him and his teammates prepare for the Betfred Cup quarter final.

Cadden, who turned 21 yesterday, insisted the Steelmen will be fired up to try and progress to the last four.

Speaking to the press, the Motherwell number 7 looked ahead to the game tomorrow night.

And Robinson admitted his players are taking things one game at a time ahead of a double header with Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen side.

Referee for Thursday’s Betfred Cup quarter final clash with Aberdeen at Fir Park is Kevin Clancy.

The 33-year-old takes charge of his second Motherwell clash of the season, both of which have been in the Betfred Cup, after officiating on five occasions last term.

His first of this season was at Fir Park when the Steelmen ran out 4-0 winners in what was an impressive display against Group F’s hardest opposition.

Two Lanarkshire Derbies were overseen by Clancy during the 2016/17 season – including the goalless draw at Fir Park and the dramatic 1-0 victory towards the end of the season in which Louis Moult’s header secured three crucial points.

His overall record in charge of Motherwell reads fourteen matches in total, Motherwell winning six, drawing three and losing five. ‘Well have scored twenty and conceded nineteen.

Kevin will be assisted by Sean Carr and Andrew McWilliam. John McKendrick is the fourth official.

‘Well boss Stephen Robinson hailed the character of his team to come from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Hibs.

The Northern Irishman admitted there were a number of positives to take from a hard-fought performance, but also believed his side could have got more than a point.

Robinson spoke to MFC TV at full time and reflected on the 90-minutes at Easter Road.

“We were so much on top of the game that I knew that we’d come back in to it and there were some super, super performances, they never stopped believing and I think that’s why fans can identify with the team.”

He added: “At 2-0 down away to Hibs, I think a lot of teams would’ve folded but it’s the character in this team not to give up.”
