Allan Campbell and Chris Cadden played the full 90 minutes for Scotland’s Under 21s as they lost 2-0 to Ukraine on Tuesday night.

The Motherwell pair, who both also featured in the draw with Latvia last week, played in midfield for Scot Gemmill’s side in front of a crowd of just over 1000 people at McDiarmid Park.

Ukraine struck in the 45th and 90th minutes through Andriy Boryachuck and Viktor Kovalenko respectively, the clinching goal coming as Scotland pressed for an equaliser.

Cadden almost gave the young Scots the lead in the first half but saw his shot blocked in the early exchanges.

Scotland now sit fourth in their Euro 2019 qualifying group after five games, six points behind England in top spot. Their next qualifying match is against Andorra in March.

Motherwell Football Club is pleased to be supporting Stonewall Scotland’s Rainbow Laces campaign.

This year, we will be showing our support for LGBT players and fans through Stonewall Scotland’s Rainbow Laces campaign. The campaign also has the support of the Scottish Professional Football League.

The Rainbow Laces campaign aims to make sporting environments more inclusive for LGBT fans and players by raising awareness of anti-LGBT abuse.

Research carried out last year found that 72% of football fans have heard anti-LGBT remarks at games over the last five years, while 20% of 18 to 24 year olds said they would be “embarrassed” if their favourite player came out as LGBT.

“Our club believes in equality and inclusion for all,” Motherwell chief operating officer Alan Burrows said. “Football should be a welcoming environment for everyone.”

Colin Macfarlane, director of Stonewall Scotland, said: “We’re delighted that Motherwell FC is supporting Rainbow Laces, and standing with LGBT fans. Many LGBT people want to take part in sport, either as players or fans, but abuse from a small minority makes many people feel unsafe.

“Wearing Rainbow Laces is a great way to show your support, and to help make sport more inclusive for everyone.”

Neil Doncaster, the chief executive of the SPFL, added: “We believe that everyone should feel welcome and included at football matches, whether they are playing or simply spectating.

“There is no place in sport for discrimination of any kind and we hope this campaign will lead to greater levels of tolerance and understanding.”

Tickets for our Betfred Cup final with Celtic are now on general sale.

Purchases can be made from the ticket office and Chapman Building office. Photographic ID will be required at time of purchase.

The Steelmen will take to the pitch at Hampden in their first major final since 2011 on Sunday, November 26.

The club has agreed an allocation of an initial 13,500 tickets for the match, with the ability to get approximately another 1,500 more should they be required.

Please note that there are no concession tickets available for the South Stand. The SPFL say it is not possible to receive such tickets.

Allan Campbell and Chris Cadden both started as Scotland Under 21s were held to a 1-1 draw with Latvia in Perth this evening.

Campbell, operating in central midfield, turned in a Man of the Match performance for Scot Gemmell’s side. Cadden started initially in a more central role, but proved far more effective for the dark blues when he was shifted to his familiar position out on the right.

In a match the Scots dominated from start to finish, the Latvians scored the opener very much against the run of play in first-l half stoppage time, Roberts Uldrikis heading home Latvia’s only attempt at goal from close range.

The hosts created chance after chance, but couldn’t force their way through against a stubborn Latvia, who were happy to pack out the defence. Even when they were reduced to 10 men, Ingars Stuglis sent packing for a shocker of a challenge on Cadden, Scotland couldn’t get level.

However, with just seconds on the clock, the referee pointed to the spot for a shirt pull in the box, allowing substitute Ryan Hardie to slot home from 12 yards to earn a more-than-deserved share of the spoils.

Scotland are back in action this Tuesday when they face Ukraine, once again at McDiarmid Park, with ‘Well academy graduates Campbell hoping to earn cap number four and Cadden cap number seven respectively.
