Recent History

ImageWhen Kilmarnock returned to the top flight in the early 1990’s they still had two areas of uncovered terracing, far less anything resembling an all-seater stadium.

That was soon to change however as Rugby Park soon bore witness to some major redevelopment.

The Moffat Stand, the Chadwick Stand and the East Stand were all constructed with the Main Stand receiving a facelift to take the capacity to around 18,000 and in sufficient good order to stage some full Scotland international matches.

Future Developments

The redevelopment of the stadium throughout the 1990’s means there is little requirement for current modernisation of Rugby Park.

Visitors Section

Motherwell fans visiting Killie are housed in the Chadwick Stand, behind one of the goals and at the opposite side of the stadium from where visiting fans were originally housed at Kilmarnock.  The stand is of an ample size to cover the regular travelling ‘Well support for league matches and has proved just big enough for the larger contingent who follow the Steelmen in cup matches.

MAGIC MOTHERWELL MOMENT

Faddy, Pearo and HammyIt was just a few days after the club had entered administration and Motherwell fans trooped to Rugby Park fearful of what the future might hold for their team, or indeed if they would even still have a team to support. Derek Adams gave ‘Well a first half lead before the home side equalised in the 68th minute.

Out of nowhere Motherwell exploded into life.  James McFadden netted in the 70th minute with Stuart Elliot making it 3-1 just two minutes later.  Incredibly Stephen Pearson netted Motherwell’s third goal inside four minutes to seal a 4-1 victory on a hugely emotional afternoon.
