Motherwell have today signed their first Junior player since the legendary Dougie Arnott in Dundonald Bluebell striker Martin Grehan. 'The Greek' has been on trial at Fir Park for quite some time but rules governing transfers between Junior and Senior teams mean the big striker had to wait till this month before finally being allowed to turn pro.

Aged twenty-three, the forward was instrumental in the Bluebell's Central League winning team last season netting thirty-two goals in thirty-three appearances. He has already netted thirteen times this campaign but will now be a professional on the books of Motherwell FC.

He told motherwellfc.co.uk, "It's great to sign for a club like Motherwell. Obviously it's a big thing to come from Juniors straight to the top-level of the senior game but I am hoping to make an impact. I've been here on trial for a few months and all the lads have been really good with me.

"Obviously I know Dougie Arnott was the last to take the same path as me so hopefully I can have a similar impact. Training has been tough but I never really expected anything less to be honest.

Grehan delighted to be at Fir Park

"My first target from now till the end of the season is to get as fit as the rest of the boys. I am quite a naturally fit person but not yet near the rest of the squad who are all extremely fit. They are all very strong physically so I want to get to that level and standards. Hopefully I'll do well in the Reserves if I get selected and I'll just take it from there.

He also went on to explain how his move to Motherwell came about, "I done well with Dundonald last season and we got promoted to the Premier Division. We were playing against Bo'ness, who were favourites for the league, in the second game of the season and the team played well and I scored two in a 3-3 draw.

"The following Saturday we were up against Rosyth and despite carrying a knock, the manager told me I should get out and play as there maybe some-one watching. I thought that quite strange so I went out and played and although I didn't do as well as the previous week, my manager got a phone call from Bobby Jenks on the Tuesday to see if I would go along to Fir Park for a trial and it just took off from there."
