Throughout Scottish football Motherwell are highly regarded for developing players that make it right through from their youth set up to first team level, one such player is midfielder Stuart Carswell .
Stuart was still a member of the ‘Well U19 squad when he was given his first start by ‘Well gaffer Stuart McCall.
With Motherwell set to face St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup Semi Final the following Saturday, Carswell was one of number of players given an opportunity, against Hearts at Tynecastle, as McCall looked to prepare for the Hampden encounter.
Carswell did not disappoint as ‘Well secured a 0-0 and was given three further opportunities to impress before the season was out.
Though most of his appearances came as substitute in the 2011’12 campaign, Stuart firmly established himself in and around the Motherwell top team, signing a deal to keep him at Fir Park until the summer of 2014, as McCall’s men went on to clinch third place in the SPL.
With midfielders Ross Forbes and Steve Jennings departing over the summer of 2012 Stuart took on a more prominent role still in Stuart McCall’s side making 26 appearances across the 12’13 campaign and looking more and more like the natural long-term successor to Keith Lasley with each passing season.
