Biography

Seeking to bring security and stability between the sticks at Fir Park these days is 29 year old goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

Born in Downpatrick, south of Belfast, the Ulsterman joined the Steelmen at the start of the 17’18 campaign from Hartlepool.

After crossing the Irish Sea, Trevor began his senior career with Sunderland where he spent six years without making the breakthrough into the Black Cats first team.

During that time he had numerous spells on loan, initially with Chesterfield with whom he made his senior debut in a 1-0 win over Grimsby Town on 23 August ’08.

Thereafter, as his time on Wear-side drew to a close, Carson spent time on loan with Lincoln City, Brentford, Hull City and Bury.

Indeed it was to The Shakers Trevor moved on a permanent basis in 2012 when his contract at the Stadium of Light expired.

Carson spent two years at Gigg Lane, part of which included a successful loan spell on the English south coast with Portsmouth.

In 2014 the stopper joined Cheltenham where Trevor had a mixed campaign. Whilst on a personal level he played more games in that season than he had done at any point previously in his career it was a poor season for the Robins who lost their league status.

Carson had proved himself to be too good a player to be lost to the English lower leagues however and he returned to the English north east to join Ronnie Moore’s Hartlepool.

A terrific first season at Victoria Park would see him rewarded as the club’s Player of the Year however his second term with the Pools was shrouded in disappointment as he missed a large chunk of the season through injury; an absence that was a significant factor in Hartlepool’s eventual relegation.

Despite interest from several other sides in England Trevor accepted the offer to sign for countryman Stephen Robinson and looked to start afresh start in Scottish football.

Having been capped to B international level with Northern Ireland the goalkeeper will surely hope that a successful time in the Scottish top flight will help him emulate the likes of Liam Boyce, Stephen Craigan, Niall McGinn and Alan Mannus by becoming regulars in the Northern Ireland senior squad.

Trevor made his Motherwell debut in the 5-1 romp over Queen’s Park in the Betfred League Cup on 15th July and collected his first clean sheet for the club a week later in the 4-0 victory over Morton at Fir Park.
