    Kevin Twaddle: Book Signing

Former ‘Well winger Kevin Twaddle will be in the ‘Well Shop this Saturday between 1pm and 2pm signing copies of his book ‘Life on the Line’.

Twaddle was a footballer who was always prepared to take a risk on the park but it was off it where he really gambled.

The former Hearts, Motherwell and St Johnstone winger speaks openly for the first time about his secret betting addiction that saw him blow more than £1 million and wrecked his football career.

Kevin tells his harrowing story of what his punting did to his family, how it killed relationships, destroyed his bond with his daughter and almost caused his parents to split up.

He talks about his addiction and how it led to him stealing, going to loan sharks, left him facing jail and considering the ultimate gamble – suicide – before he finally got his life back on the straight and narrow.

Kevin, who has since gone on to play pool for Scotland, has not had a bet for more than six years, holds a prominent position in Gamblers Anonymous and now also uses his experiences to help the Professional Footballers Association (Scotland) to educate today’s footballers of the pitfalls of gambling.

This is the harrowing and moving story of how one man’s life fell apart spectacularly because of his addiction to gambling and how he finally managed to conquer his demons.

You can buy your copy of the book in the ‘Well Shop or online via MotherwellDirect.

    Weatherseal SPL Charity Weekend

Weatherseal and Football Memories, the Alzheimer Scotland project to benefit from the SPL’s first ever charity weekend today released a free-to-view film promoting the outstanding work of the charity.

This weekend’s SPL fixture card marks a weekend of activity to support Football Memories with the league’s home improvement partner gifting its marketing rights to Football Memories, and staff collecting donations at all six games.

Nearly 4,000 fans cast votes via www.weatherseal-charity.co.uk over a seven day period to 28th October 2012, with clubs the length and breadth of the country encouraging fans to have their say in a wide ranging debate. Football Memories secured over 36% of the vote.

Groups are being established locally across Scotland, and football images and memorabilia are used as reminiscence therapy for people with dementia and other memory problems. Murray in charge on Saturday

Referee for Saturday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Ross County at Fir Park is Calum Murray.

The experienced Murray has already taken charge of one Motherwell match this campaign, the instantly forgettable 2-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Communities League Cup.

Motherwell fans will also be familiar with the 41-year old; he handled three ‘Well game last season.

The first was a 2-1 win at Pittodrie with goals from Michael Higdon and Omar Daley. The second was a 1-1 draw with St Mirren last December, Michael Higdon grabbing Motherwell’s goal and the last was the 3-2 win over St Johnstone, Keith Lasley and a Henrik Ojamaa double separating the sides.

He was the man in the middle four times the previous season, including the Scottish Cup Final last May.

Prior to the Cup Final, he handled the 1-0 defeat at McDiarmid Park in January. Saints won courtesy of a controversial penalty award when Stephen Craigan was adjudged to have clashed with Michael Duberry inside the area; Liam Craig dispatched the resulting kick from the spot.

He also officiated the 2-2 Scottish Cup Quarter Final draw at Tannadice which won wide applause for being end-to-end and exciting and Murray played his part with an excellent display, including getting a number of penalty calls spot on.

The replay was one of the best Motherwell displays of the campaign, Murphy, Humphrey and Jeffers scoring in an excellent all-round team display.

His overall record in charge of the Steelmen is fairly decent. Of the 19 games he has taken charge of, Motherwell have won eight, drawn four and lost seven. The Fir Parkers have scored 25 whilst 25 have hit the back of the ‘Well net.

57 players have seen yellow on those fourteen matches, 31 of which were shown to a player wearing Claret and Amber. Only one player has been sent for an early bath, Bob Malcolm in the famous 1-0 win over Celtic back in early 2008.

Calum will be ably assisted on the day by Graham McNeillie and Joseph Lawson with Greig Aitken on fourth official duties.

    TV: Cummins pens contract extension

Young defender Adam Cummins has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Fir Park until the summer of 2015.

The former Evertonian has played a big part this season, starting sixteen games including the Champions League tie against Panathinaikos and the Europa League qualifier against Levante U.D.

19-year old Cummins, who scored his first senior goal against Inverness three weeks ago, had a contract until the end of the current campaign but the club moved quickly to secure him to a longer deal after some standout performances.

The youngster, who today also joined the ‘Well Society, told MFC TV of his delighted at having his immediate future sorted.

[pullquote]I will keep playing and training as if I am batting for a new deal and hopefully keep my place in the starting eleven.[/pullquote]

He said: “I am really happy to get things confirmed; I feel as if I’ve had a fairly good season so far but it’s only half done.

“I’ve got to carry on the way I am, listening to everyone who is trying to help me and hopefully improve further.

“I certainly didn’t want to be chasing my tail, worrying about my future but now that I have things sorted I can concentrate on developing.

“That’s not to say it’s time to put the tools away, I will keep playing and training as if I am batting for a new deal and hopefully keep my place in the starting eleven.”

    TV: JJ frustrated at postponement

Under 20s boss Jonathan Johansson was left frustrated as yet another match in the fixture list has had to be cancelled.

Tonight’s match with Kilmarnock has had to be postponed and will now go ahead in late February next year.

The youths have played just once since the 23rd of October, a 4-2 defeat at Tynecastle last month, and will go a total of seven weeks with just one game as a backlog of fixtures begin to pile up.

To compound matters, his side have found it difficult to train in the recent inclement weather and were forced to clear snow from the new FIFA2 Astro behind the East Stand yesterday.

[pullquote]We will try and get a couple of bounce games arranged over the next few days and weeks to try and keep the lads as sharp as possible.[/pullquote]

Former Finland striker Johansson is concerned about the lack of game time for his lads but insists he will keep the ticking over ahead of the next match.

“It’s very frustrating because players at this age need as many games as possible; one game a week at the very least,” he told MFC TV.

“Obviously we are all disappointed but it is something you have to expect at this time of year.

“We will have a backlog at some stage of the season and rearranging fixtures for games to take place in the actual stadiums isn’t always straight forward but that’s something we will just need to deal with.

“We will try and get a couple of bounce games arranged over the next few days and weeks to try and keep the lads as sharp as possible.”
