    Ben Hall departs for Brighton

Motherwell FC can today confirm Ben Hall has signed for English Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Hall, 19, who has been at the club for just over three years, had been offered several new deals to stay at Fir Park after breaking into the side under Mark McGhee.

However, despite the clubs’ best efforts to keep the Northern Irish Youth International, he has chosen to sign a two-year deal at the Amex Arena.

[pullquote]We have been in discussions with Ben for the best part of five months, however, we have always been conscious that this may happen and as such, have been working on a replacement, which we hope to announce soon.[/pullquote]

‘Well boss Mark McGhee added: “We are obviously disappointed Ben has chosen Brighton, but this is further vindication of our policy at the club of developing young talent and should give hope to the youngsters currently at the club and in the Academy.

“We have been in discussions with Ben for the best part of five months, however, we have always been conscious that this may happen and as such, have been working on a replacement, which we hope to announce soon.

“Ben has done well, and we wish him well in the English Championship, but his departure provides an opportunity for someone else to hopefully make a similar sort of impact.”

    Club Statement: Alan Burrows

Motherwell FC can today confirm Alan Burrows has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Alan was previously the award-winning Head of Communications for seven years before spending the last two years as General Manager.

In that time, the 33-year old has worked to oversee all areas of the club, including representing Motherwell at the SPFL, the Scottish FA and the European Club Association (ECA).

As discussions on another ownership model continue apace, the Board were keen to ensure Alan’s knowledge and experience of the club and contacts in the game were retained.

He will take his seat on the Board, reporting directly to the Chairman and fellow Directors.

Chairman Jim McMahon said: “I am delighted that Alan has agreed to take up the post of Chief Operating Officer.

“I have worked with him for a number of years now and no one is more dedicated to the long-term future of this club.

“He will be an excellent addition to the Board of Motherwell Football Club.”

[pullquote]We have lots to do and improve on, but there is also a lot to be positive about. We have a terrific Community Trust, a flourishing Academy system and solid foundation to build on after a fifth-placed finish last term.[/pullquote]

Alan, who also sits on the Board of the Community Trust, added: “We’ve had a transitional two years at the club, which although has been a challenge, has been very enjoyable.

“The club is set to undergo some more positive changes, with newly re-organised staffing structure and fresh ideas.

“We have lots to do and improve on, but there is also a lot to be positive about. We have a terrific Community Trust, a flourishing Academy system and solid foundation to build on after a fifth-placed finish last term.

“On the park, Mark is working hard to put our squad together ahead of the 2016/17 season, together with some of our emerging talent from Stephen Craigan’s Cup winning Under 20s squad.

“I look forward to serving on the Board and working closely with the Chairman and fellow Directors over the months and years ahead.”

    Scotland calls for Academy youngsters

Four of Motherwell’s Elite Academy prospects have been included in the Scotland U15s squad gathering later this month.

Goalkeeper Jamie Stevenson, defender Sam Duncan and forwards Jamie Semple and Kyle Connell have been named in the squad get-together at Airdrie on 21 June.

The gathering is split into two groups with only the Old Firm clubs having more representatives in the ‘AM’ squad than the Steelmen.

Academy Director Scott Leitch commented: “We are delighted for the four boys who have been named in the squad gathering and wish them all the very best with the session.

“This is another indication of some of the great work that goes on with our coaching and scouting staff within the Motherwell Academy. There are some really strong prospects at various levels who all have a chance of getting similar sort of recognition to the four lads this month.

“Our aim is to be amongst the very best Academy’s in Scotland, a place where parents and players know their children will get the best possible coaching and care, with a clear and obvious pathway into professional football and, hopefully, the first-team squad.”
