Robinson: Still in control of our destiny

Fir Park boss Stephen Robinson believes his side’s clash with Hamilton this weekend is bigger than the club’s play-off clash with Rangers back in 2015 because the Steelmen are “still in control of their destiny”.

The two sides meet this Saturday for the biggest Lanarkshire Derby of the season level on points and with Premiership survival in the balance.

Speaking to the press this morning, ‘Well boss looked ahead to the all important trip across the road to the SuperSeal Stadium.

[pullquote]Some people are saying it’s much bigger than the Rangers play-off game and it is because we’re still in control of our own destiny.[/pullquote]

He said: “We won’t dress it up, just like we haven’t done in the last run-in of games because it’s a big, big game.

“Some people are saying it’s much bigger than the Rangers play-off game and it is because we’re still in control of our own destiny.”

He added: “We’re under no illusions how big the game is and how positively a result can set us up for the Tuesday night game.”

Moult: We want to put things right

Louis Moult is keen to add to his goal scoring tally against Hamilton as the Steelmen take on their local rivals this weekend.

But the ‘Well striker insisted that it is not just his game he is worried about, admitting that the whole squad is keen to put things right and take one step towards Premiership survival.

Speaking to the broadcast press this morning, Moult looked ahead to Saturday’s game.

[pullquote]I think most of the boys would feel the same – we want to get out there and put it right, that’s the general feeling.[/pullquote]

He said: “After Saturday I just wanted to play again immediately on the Tuesday, and I think most of the boys would feel the same – we want to get out there and put it right, that’s the general feeling.

“I try and treat every game like every game, but I’m aware that I’ve scored some goals against them this season and last so hopefully I can add to that on Saturday.”

He added: “First and foremost we need to win the game, simple as that, it’s a massive game on Saturday and every game is now until the end of the season.”

Clancy in charge of Lanarkshire debry

Referee for Saturday’s Ladbrokes Premiership match against Hamilton at the SuperSeal Stadium is Kevin Clancy.

It’s Kevin’s fifth Motherwell involvement of the season and his second Lanarkshire Derby – after he took charge of the goalless draw last month.

His first involvement this season as referee came in the BetFred Cup match against Celtic after he was on fourth official duties for the Rangers clash in the group stages.

Kevin was in the middle as a dominant Celtic overturned Motherwell 5-0 in Glasgow before they went on to lift the trophy earlier this season.

He was in charge again when Celtic came to Fir Park in December and oversaw the dramatic 4-3 loss that day for the Steelmen.

His overall record in charge of Motherwell reads twelve matches in total, Motherwell winning four, drawing three and losing five. ‘Well have scored fifteen and conceded nineteen.

Kevin will be ably assisted by David McGeachie and Alastair Mather, with Alan Newlands on Fourth Official duties.

Trust hold first one day camp

Motherwell Football Club Community Trust enjoyed a packed weekend with hundreds of children attending Saturday’s match.

And that was the cherry on top of a successful week for the Trust, who held their first ever stand-alone in-service camp on Thursday.

97 children attended the event and were divided in to three teams – being allocated points for skills challenges, small-sided games and matches.

They were given a surprise when Keith Lasley, Louis Moult and Elliott Frear came to spend time, answer questions and sign autographs.

Youngsters aged 5-12 were supervised by the Community Trust fully qualified coaches and some players too.

[pullquote]The children were absolutely delighted to meet their heroes at Fir Park, so we would like to thank Keith Lasley, Elliott Frear and Louis Moult for coming along.[/pullquote]

Community Trust General Manager Dawn Middleton said: “After our extremely successful Easter Camps, we were always keen to run another day like we did on Thursday.

“And it was yet another hit with everyone who came along, with the coaches putting on a tremendous day for the group.

“The children were absolutely delighted to meet their heroes at Fir Park, so we would like to thank Keith Lasley, Elliott Frear and Louis Moult for coming along.”

She added: “We had 2 coaches working with each age group and they enjoyed the day as much as the children!

“We would like to thank everyone who attended and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our Summer Camps which will run from 3 July – 16 August.”

    ‘Bring a Friend’ vs Killie

Motherwell FC is pleased to announce current Season Ticket holders can ‘Bring a Friend for Free’ for the match against Kilmarnock next Tuesday night.

The Steelmen have several huge games between now and the end of the season and we hope 2016/17 Season Ticket holders can help swell the crowd to get right behind the side in the last home league fixture.

To claim a free ticket, all you need to do is bring Voucher K from the back of the book to the Ticket Office at any point between now and 12 noon on Tuesday 16th May, exchanging it for a match ticket (one ticket per voucher).

In addition to the standard office hours, the Ticket Office will be open late night Thursday (7pm) and on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

The club will look to accommodate the additional ticket to be as close to the season ticket holder’s seat as possible.

Chairman Jim McMahon said: “It’s a huge few weeks for the club and I would encourage every single ‘Well fan to get right behind the squad and management team.

“We have been in this situation before and got through it by everyone, both at the club and in the stands, sticking together and that’s what I am asking for now.

“If you can get to Accies at the weekend, please do. If you can introduce and encourage as many along to Fir Park next Tuesday, please do that too as the players would really appreciate your loud, positive backing.”

    The Foreign Legion: Miodrag Krivokapić

Montenegrin defender Miodrag Krivokapić spent three years at Fir Park in the mid-nineties and was a much loved figure amongst the Steelmen support.

A former Red Star Belgrade player, he came to Scotland in 1988 when he joined Dundee Utd for £200,000.

It was against Motherwell that Mio would net his only goal for United, that coming in a 2-1 win over ‘Well in March 1989 and the only medal of his Tannadice career also came against Motherwell where he earned a Scottish Cup runners-up medal in 1991.

Krivokapić wouldn’t be the first or the last to fall out with Dundee Utd manager Jim McLean and he spent almost the whole of season 1991’92 away from the club. He returned to Tannadice but things were never quite the same and he was released in the summer of 1993.

Tommy McLean moved swiftly to secure the 33 year old’s services and as Davie Cooper had done some four years earlier, Mio’s experienced playing style would have a positive influence on every one of his Motherwell team-mates.

Punts up the park were rare when Krivokapić was playing, with the former Yugoslav international eager to take possession and start from moves from deep. The likes of Davies, Lambert, Dolan and O’Donnell all benefited from his determination to play football at every possible opportunity.

His defending wasn’t too shabby either, with Brian Martin and Rab McKinnon both gaining Scotland caps after playing alongside him in defence.

Perhaps Mio’s most memorable moment in claret and amber came late in his first season at the club as ‘Well travelled to Easter Road. With the hosts seeking to cancel out Motherwell’s 1-0 advantage, Krivokapić broke from defence to claim possession midway in his own half.

Progressing over the halfway line, he fed Tommy Coyne to his right. Continuing his run, the defender arrived at the back post at just the right time to deftly nod Coyne’s cross past Jim Leighton and into the net.

His celebration was a joy to behold as the defender surged over the advertising boards towards the Motherwell fans now bounding down the terracing towards him. Blowing kisses to all, he disappeared from view under a pile of ecstatic team-mates

Mio moved on having played more than 70 league games for the club but latterly returned in a coaching capacity.

He also briefly took charge of the first team in a joint caretaker role for a spell alongside John Philliben prior to the appointment of Eric Black.
