In Numbers: ‘Well face Gers at Ibrox

Motherwell travel to Ibrox on Saturday on the back of two consecutive victories in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Stephen Robinson’s side face the Glasgow outfit just days after their Europa League trip to take on Spartak Moscow.

Here, we look at the fixture in numbers.

    Six

The total number of goals shared between the sides in the last meeting between the two earlier this season.

Goals from Kyle Lafferty and Ovie Ejaria saw Steven Gerrard’s side come back from behind to lead the game 3-2 as the game entered stoppage time.

Danny Johnson and Carl McHugh had both struck on a dramatic afternoon at Fir Park, before captain Peter Hartley popped up with a last-minute leveller to round off what was one of the games of the season.

    17

On the topic of goals, the Fir Park side take on a team who have conceded just 17 goals this season in all competitions before their Europa League tie on Thursday night.

Gerrard’s men have only shipped that tally despite playing 25 games already in the 2018/19 campaign.

The Steelmen can head to the south side of Glasgow with confidence though, knowing they are the team who have put the most goals past Rangers in a single game this term, ahead of sides like Villarreal, Celtic and table-toppers Hearts.

    67

The number of hours between Rangers finishing their Europa League match in Moscow on Thursday night and kick off on Sunday.

The Light Blues will make the long journey back after their fourth game in the competition, before being pitched in at home against the ‘Well.

    Play the new Well Lottery

Our lottery scheme to help invest money in youth development and our academy has changed.

Our new Well Lottery allows you the chance to win up to £25,000, while also continuing to back the future players of the club.

Still priced at £1 per entry, our new  providers Unity will also offer up smaller prizes of £1,000 and £25.

HOW TO JOIN THE NEW WELL LOTTERY

To join the new Well Lottery, you can now choose one of the following options:

    • Fill in the lottery leaflet provided and return via the freepost address provided to Unity.
    • Download a lottery leaflet from the Well Lottery website and return to Unity by post.
    • Sign up online here.

Once you have signed up, you will receive a letter welcoming you to the lottery which will tell you your lottery numbers. You will then be entered into the draw for as long as you wish to play.

How does the new Well Lottery work?

We have teamed up with Unity to run the Well Lottery. For as little as £1 per week, you’ll have the chance to win up to £25,000. At least 50p of every £1 played goes straight to youth development but most importantly, there are no ongoing costs to the club.

How is it different to the old lottery?

New lottery numbers: Every player will be allocated a six-digit lottery number for every entry they wish to play. If you match your number with the winning number drawn on a Saturday in the correct sequence, you can win up to £25,000.

Higher prize fund: Through Unity, we can now offer a higher weekly jackpot of £25,000, with smaller prizes of £1,000, £25 and five entries into the next draw on offer.

More payment options: You can join the lottery by direct debit, credit card or cheque.

Proceeds: Every £1 ticket gains Motherwell FC at least 50p towards the club’s youth development and academy programme.

No change to the ticket price: It’s still £1 to play.

    Where does the money go?

Every £1 is split three ways. At least 50p of every £1 comes straight to Motherwell FC, which is put towards the club’s youth Development and academy programme. The other 50p covers the cost of the administration of the lottery, and goes towards the fantastic prize fund.

    How do I win?

Every player of the new Well Lottery will be allocated a six-digit lottery number for every entry they wish to play. This idea is to match your number with the winning number that is drawn on a Saturday in the correct sequence. Every entry in the Unity lottery has an equal one in 63 chance of winning a prize.

    For example:

    325764 – random winning number

    326574 – your lottery number

This is a three-number match, winning five entries into the next draw.

How do I know if I have won?

Players are notified automatically, and prizes sent out by post, so you do not need to claim your prize. If you would like to check the winning number each week, these can be found on Unity’s website and here on the official Motherwell FC website.

    What is Unity?

Unity is a platform on which charities run their own fundraising lottery. It is run by an external lottery manager, Sterling Lotteries, who administer hundreds of charity lotteries for clients across the country.

Loan Watch: McLaughlin opens his account

Neil McLaughlin was named in the starting team and grabbed his first goal of the campaign as Stirling Albion ran out 3-0 winners at home against Berwick Rangers.

The youngster opened the scoring after 16 minutes, tucking home Danny Jardine’s pass at the back post.

Former ‘Well youth Dylan Mackin was also on target for the Binos, with the win creating some distance between them at the bottom two clubs.

Peter Morrison made his sixth appearance for Albion Rovers in their 2-1 defeat away to league leaders Peterhead.

The young ‘Well stopper had another busy afternoon at a cold, windy Balmoor and made a number of stops in difficult conditions. But he couldn’t step his side ending up on the losing side, despite Barry Eley’s second-half hit.

In the Championship, Jake Hastie was a 72nd minute sub as Alloa lost at home to Dunfermline. The winger was introduced with the Wasps trying to get back into the match following Jackson Longridge’s 69th minute goal, but the Pars held on for the three points.

Ross MacLean was an unused sub as Morton thrashed Partick Thistle 5-1, where Shea Gordon continues to miss out with an injury picked up against Celtic earlier in the campaign.

The 19-year-old will be in contention to face Turkey on Saturday, 17 November, with the friendly match being played in Murcia in Spain.

    Women lose Scottish Cup final

    Women lose Scottish Cup final

Motherwell were unable to cap an incredible season by lifting the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup as they fell to a crushing 8-0 defeat against Hibs.

The women of steel headed into the showpiece fixture at Firhill as massive underdogs and, after conceding in the second minute, rarely came close to defying the odds.

Abigail Harrison’s deflected shot put Hibs ahead after just two minutes and they doubled their lead just three minutes later when Jamie-Lee Napier headed home Rachel McLauchlan’s cross at the back post.

Donald Jennow’s side were shell shocked and things went from bad to worse on 14 minutes when Harrison added to her tally with a clinical finish from close range.

Harrison limped off to be replaced by Lauren Davidson and the substitute made an immediate impact when a clinical counter from a Motherwell corner ended with the striker slotting the ball under the helpless Autumn Farrell.

The ‘Well goal continued to come under siege and Maxine Welsh was desperately unlucky to see her clearance from a low cross beat Farrell and find the net for 5-0.

A sixth Hibs goal followed before the break, Cailin Michie’s low drive from outside the area finding the bottom right corner.

Going into the half time break 6-0 down, Jennow was tasked with delivering one of the most difficult team talks of his managerial career.

Napier bagged her second of the afternoon five minutes after the restart and completed her hat-trick just after the hour mark when she tapped in after Farrell had denied McLauchlan.

Hayley Cunningham had a shot well saved and Suzanne Mulvey’s header was scrambled clear as Motherwell tried to find a consolation, but it was Hibs who continued to enjoy the better of the chances as the match drew to a close.

In the end it was a bitterly disappointing way for ‘Well to end the season, but they can take great pride in their record breaking league campaign and in the run to the final.

Motherwell will return to action in the new year, when preparations will begin for their first ever season in SWPL 1.
