Richard Tait spoke on behalf of the players after the heavy defeat at Rangers, apologising to the support and saying the squad are “massively disappointed” with themselves.

    Rangers 7 – 1 Motherwell

Motherwell suffered a humbling defeat at Ibrox, losing 7-1 to Rangers.

Off the back of wins over St Mirren and Dundee, the Steelmen went to Ibrox feeling confident – but it was certainly an afternoon to forget.

Rangers made their mark in the game early, with a Scott Arfield goal in the eighth minute.

Not long after, Morelos had his shot but sent his header flying over the bar.

But the Steelmen managed to claw back control and Bowman got the ball to Main who tapped it in from two yards out, taking them equal.

The hosts continued to make chances for themselves, but an Ovie Ejaria shot clanged off the crossbar.

In the 30th minute, McHugh went into the book for a challenge on Morelos. And it got worse soon after, when he was shown yellow for the second time just two minutes later for handball inside the box.

It proved a pivotal moment – Tavernier slotted in the penalty taking Rangers into a 2-1 lead.

A corner just before half time was converted by Morelos, who found the back of the net with a header from the post.

Both Rangers and Motherwell made changes going into the second 45, with Andy Rose coming on for Ryan Bowman and Gareth McAuley taking the place of Nicola Katic.

Middleton sent a wide ball fizzing into the box, past Trevor Carson and found the back of the net to give the hosts a 4-1 lead in the 59th minute.

Then, Arfield had his shot at a second goal – as he was left with plenty of space in the box, and took his time comfortably sending the ball past Carson.

David Turnbull was then subbed by Allan Campbell, followed soon after by Christian Mbulu coming on for Gael Bigirimana – but it made little difference.

‘Well had one of their only shots in the second half thanks to Chris Cadden, who shot down the wing and tried to find Andy Rose with a low cross, but missed him by just a few inches amidst calls for a penalty.

Rangers’ sixth goal came from Eros Grezda, who again had plenty of space to cut in front of the box – and there was nothing Carson could do but watch it glide past him.

Ejaria took another shot with a strong strike from outside the box, but it went just wide of goal.

Grezda followed it up mere minutes later, getting his head to a cross in from the right. Rangers 7-1 Motherwell.

In the 86th minute Curtis Main managed to fight off opposition outside the box and turn to take a strike, but it soared well over the crossbar.

Two new faces on Well Society board

Gordon Miller and Derek Watson are the two newly-elected board members with the Well Society.

Both were at Fir Park on Friday to mark their election, ahead of their first board meeting on 27 November.

Derek was previously on the Well Society Board. Having left due to work commitments at the time, had no hesitation in putting himself forward to come back on board and believes he can help ensure the younger fans have more of a say in the running of the club.

“Being a fan owned club means everyone should have a voice regardless of where they sit in the stadium,” he said.

“I stand in the last section of the east stand among some very passionate and creative individuals, I’d like to think that my election to the board will give me the opportunity to make their voices heard.

“I’m also now the youngest member of the board and one of my aims is going to to make the Society engaging and attractive to the younger generations of Well fans.”

Gordon Miller, a season ticket holder in the Phil O’Donnell stand, added: ”It’s a huge honour to join The Well Society board. I was born and raised in Motherwell, and our club is the heart of our community.

“Being a community club is more than a slogan. Iur club is owned and operated by our community. So our success is entirely dependent on us – the fans.

“I’m excited about the future of Motherwell FC and at playing a role at delivering a sustainable and successful fan ownership model that will see our club flourish.”

If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions you’d like to raise ahead of the next Well Society board meeting, please get in touch by emailing well.society@motherwellfc.co.uk.

David Turnbull has been named as the Tullibardine Motherwell player of the month for October.

Need to know: A look at Rangers

Need to know: A look at Rangers

Steven Gerrard has a quarter of a century of games under his belt as Rangers boss.

The Glaswegian side host Stephen Robinson’s men at Ibrox on Sunday, looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to five games.

Here’s what you need to know about the Gers.

    Hectic schedule

Sunday’s showdown is the third game in just over a week for Rangers, who have had a busy start to the 2018/19 campaign.

The Ibrox outfit have played 27 games already, but have only lost four of those in all competitions.

Three of those defeats have fallen in their last seven domestic matches, losing to Livingston in the league, Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup semi final and Spartak Moscow in the Europa League.

    Collecting clean sheets

Across the piece, one of the most improved areas of this Rangers side under Gerrard has been their defence.

The club have kept the back door shut in 40% of their matches, and have only conceded more than two goals on domestic duty on one occasion this season.

That came in dramatic style against none other than Stephen Robinson’s Motherwell.

    Menacing Morelos

In Alfredo Morelos, Rangers have one of the Premiership’s top scorers leading their attack.

The Colombian has been in hot form this season, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists for his teammates.

Only Steven Naismith and Odsonne Edouard have more goals to their name in the league, but fall short of the Rangers striker’s tally in all competitions.

    Missing Candeias

After being sent off for two yellow cards in their last outing at St Mirren, Rangers had hoped to win an appeal to have Daniel Candeias available for Sunday.

As it turned out, the Scottish FA threw out the claim on the basis his second yellow wasn’t a case of mistaken identity.

Trevor Carson gets Northern Ireland call

Trevor Carson gets Northern Ireland call

Trevor Carson has again been called into Northern Ireland’s squad, as they prepare for their final Nations League fixture.

A friendly with Republic of Ireland lies in wait on Thursday, 15 November, before the deciding fixture with Austria three days later.

Northern Ireland have no points from their opening three games, meaning they cannot be promoted from their group.

But a win over Austria could save them from relegation and also give them an outside chance of being one of the teams in the play-offs for EURO 2020 next year.
