    In Numbers: Previewing Dundee

Dundee are the visitors to Fir Park on Saturday, as the Ladbrokes Premiership season races to its close.

Here’s the game previewed in numbers.

    Six

Dundee sit six points from their nearest rivals, occupying bottom spot in the Ladbrokes Premiership going into Saturday’s game.

Jim McIntyre’s men have lost their last eight matches in the league, scoring three and conceding 18.

    Setting the scene on Dundee

    http://dundee

Motherwell host their first post-split home game on Saturday, as Dundee visit Fir Park.

Here’s an early look ahead to the match.

    What’s at stake

Motherwell are in a three-way fight for seventh place with St Johnstone and Livingston. The Saints sit three points ahead as things stand, with Livingston two points behind the Steelmen.

Dundee are desperate need of points to pull themselves out of relegation danger. The Dark Blues are currently six adrift at the bottom behind St Mirren, and a further two points from total safety behind Hamilton Academical.

    Tale of the tape

Motherwell have won one, drawn one and lost three of their last five. A win over St Johnstone came with a draw at Hamilton, but defeats to Hibernian, Rangers and Aberdeen.

Dundee have lost all of their last five games, going down to Celtic, St Mirren, Dundee and St Johnstone twice.

    Head to head

Motherwell have won six games in a row against Dundee, and are unbeaten against Jim McIntyre’s side in eight.

The last game at Dens Park saw a David Turnbull penalty split the sides. His long-range strike also was the difference in a 1-0 victory last time out at Fir Park.

Reserves lose final match to Celtic

Motherwell lost their chance to claim the SPFL Reserve League title as they were defeated 3-1 by Celtic in their final game of the season.

The Glasgow side themselves went top with a game to play, with goals from Armstrong Oxoflex, PJ Crossan and Mikey Johnston sealing victory.

Conor Sammon grabbed a late consolation for Maurice Ross’ side, who featured a number of first team players.

Peter Hartley, Chris Cadden and Danny Johnson also got minutes for the second string, who went into the game knowing a win could put them in title contention.

Within nine minutes, the visitors were in front at Forthbank. Oxoflex worked a one-two on the edge of the area, before side footing past Rohan Ferguson to open the scoring.

Both sides had chances as the first half wore on, but Celtic would strike on the verge of half time to double their advantage.

A driving run through the middle of the park by Crossan presented him a shooting chance from the edge of the box, which he took with aplomb.

Then, soon after the hour mark, Johnston netted the third. Bursting through a number of bodies, he slotted under Ferguson to make it 3-0.

Motherwell had chances and got a consolation with five to go, with Sammon getting on the end of a terrific reverse pass from subsitute Akeel Rehman, putting the ball past the goalkeeper.

The young Steelmen’s season is now complete, and they must now wait to see how high up the table they will finish.

    Glasgow City defeat Motherwell

    Glasgow City defeat Motherwell

Motherwell suffered a heavy defeat against Glasgow City at Petershill Park on Sunday.

Four first-half goals for Kirsty Howat had the league leaders in command at half time and they would add to their tally a further four times after the break.

City broke the deadlock after five minutes when Kirsty Howat headed the ball past Morgan Hunter from a corner and she added her second three minutes later, capitalising on a slack back pass before rounding the keeper and slotting home.

Hunter pulled off a string of saves before Howat completed her hat trick when she scrambled home from a corner.

The fourth goal came four minutes before the break when Howat found herself first to the driven through ball and she made no mistake by poking it past the onrushing Hunter to extend City’s lead.

Second half substitute Jordan McLintock made it 5-0 with 54 minutes played and Motherwell’s problems worsened as Kerry Montgomery was ordered off following a second booking.

Jenna Clark made it 6-0 from the resulting free kick and Joanne Paton waltzed her way into the box past three ‘Well defenders before squaring it across the box to fellow substitute Lara Ivanusa to slot into an empty net to make it seven.

Goal number eight for City came with five minutes to play, Clare Shine was on hand to add her name to the scoresheet, advancing forward into the box before producing a smart finish to further extend City’s lead.

The game would finish 8-0 which was unfair on Hunter, who produced some fantastic saves during the match and had spared further blushes for the women of steel.

Motherwell: Hunter, Knox, Rolph, Rafferty, Roberts, Crilly, Montgomery, McEachran, Rice, Adams, Gardner (MacLeod).
