    Previewing Motherwell v Dundee

    Previewing Motherwell v Dundee

Motherwell host Dundee in the Ladbrokes Premiership on Saturday.

    Here’s the game previewed.

    What’s at stake

Motherwell are in the hunt for seventh spot in the league, fighting it out in a mini league with St Johnstone and Livingston.

St Johnstone have the upper hand with a three-point advantage over the ‘Well, with Livi two points further behind the Steelmen.

For Dundee, it’s all about getting the win. Defeat could potentially leave them nine points from safety with nine points left to play for.

    The form guide

Motherwell have one win from their last five, but maintain a formidable home record in 2019 which has seen the team win five and lose one in the league.

Dundee have lost their last eight matches in the league. Their last win came at Livingston in February.

    Team news

Trevor Carson, Craig Tanner, Ross McCormack and Christian Mbulu remain sidelined.

    Setting the scene on Dundee

    http://dundee

Motherwell host their first post-split home game on Saturday, as Dundee visit Fir Park.

Here’s an early look ahead to the match.

    What’s at stake

Motherwell are in a three-way fight for seventh place with St Johnstone and Livingston. The Saints sit three points ahead as things stand, with Livingston two points behind the Steelmen.

Dundee are desperate need of points to pull themselves out of relegation danger. The Dark Blues are currently six adrift at the bottom behind St Mirren, and a further two points from total safety behind Hamilton Academical.

    Tale of the tape

Motherwell have won one, drawn one and lost three of their last five. A win over St Johnstone came with a draw at Hamilton, but defeats to Hibernian, Rangers and Aberdeen.

Dundee have lost all of their last five games, going down to Celtic, St Mirren, Dundee and St Johnstone twice.

    Head to head

Motherwell have won six games in a row against Dundee, and are unbeaten against Jim McIntyre’s side in eight.

The last game at Dens Park saw a David Turnbull penalty split the sides. His long-range strike also was the difference in a 1-0 victory last time out at Fir Park.

Reserves lose final match to Celtic

Motherwell lost their chance to claim the SPFL Reserve League title as they were defeated 3-1 by Celtic in their final game of the season.

The Glasgow side themselves went top with a game to play, with goals from Armstrong Oxoflex, PJ Crossan and Mikey Johnston sealing victory.

Conor Sammon grabbed a late consolation for Maurice Ross’ side, who featured a number of first team players.

Peter Hartley, Chris Cadden and Danny Johnson also got minutes for the second string, who went into the game knowing a win could put them in title contention.

Within nine minutes, the visitors were in front at Forthbank. Oxoflex worked a one-two on the edge of the area, before side footing past Rohan Ferguson to open the scoring.

Both sides had chances as the first half wore on, but Celtic would strike on the verge of half time to double their advantage.

A driving run through the middle of the park by Crossan presented him a shooting chance from the edge of the box, which he took with aplomb.

Then, soon after the hour mark, Johnston netted the third. Bursting through a number of bodies, he slotted under Ferguson to make it 3-0.

Motherwell had chances and got a consolation with five to go, with Sammon getting on the end of a terrific reverse pass from subsitute Akeel Rehman, putting the ball past the goalkeeper.

The young Steelmen’s season is now complete, and they must now wait to see how high up the table they will finish.
