David Turnbull to stay at Motherwell

David Turnbull to stay at Motherwell

David Turnbull is to remain a Motherwell player, with a proposed move to Celtic FC no longer taking place.

An agreement was reached with the Glasgow club on 12 June, subject to the player agreeing personal terms, which he did, and undergoing a medical.

During that medical process, an issue was identified that will require David to have immediate preventative surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.

Celtic were still keen to sign the player despite this matter arising. But having presented revised transfer terms to Motherwell, the clubs could not reach an agreement.

David will now remain at Fir Park and will shortly have an operation which will rule him out of any football for an extended period, the exact length to be determined following surgery.

We will give David all the support he needs during this process. We wish him the best with his procedure and rehabilitation, and look forward to watching him play in claret and amber again in the near future.

‘Well lose opening friendly at Crusaders

Twenty-one players got playing time as Motherwell lost 1-0 to Crusaders in their opening pre-season friendly.

Rory Hale’s first half effort from close range was the difference between the two teams, as manager Stephen Robinson changed his outfield players entirely for both halves.

Motherwell’s first game of the 2019/20 campaign saw plenty of composed play, but scoring chances were at a premium.

Against an opposition preparing for a tilt at UEFA Europa League qualification, the mixed ‘Well teams continued preparation which had included two double training sessions in the two days previous, with more to come before Saturday’s tour closer at Linfield.

Motherwell first half: Carson, Grimshaw, Hartley, Gallagher, Livingstone, Maguire, Campbell, Sloth, Long, Johnson, Semple.

Motherwell second half: Carson, Tait, Devine, Dunne, Carroll, Donnelly, Cornlius, McAlear, Polworth, Hylton, Scott.

March against prostate cancer with Jeff Stelling

March against prostate cancer with Jeff Stelling

Jeff Stelling is coming to Fir Park as part of another epic walking challenge for Prostate Cancer UK.

The Sky Sports presenter and marathon man has already completed 25 walking marathons for the men’s health charity, and will now span another four countries in four days in September 2019.

The Scottish leg of his tour kicks off at Hampden Park on 5 September, making his way to numerous stadiums across Glasgow and Lanarkshire before ending in ML1.

If you want to raise money for the charity, you can join him on the walk by signing up at marchformen.org. What’s more, you can use the code MOTHERWELL10 to get 10% off the £30 entry fee.

Having raised close to £800,000 across 2016 and 2017, he’s aiming to march through the £1m fundraising barrier as he travels here, before heading on to Belfast, Cardiff and London.

Over 26,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer in Scotland, emphasising the need to raise awareness and funds.

“It’s three years since I started this life-saving journey at the gates of my club, Hartlepool United, but there is still so much work to do,” said Jeff.

“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with one man dying every 45 minutes from this disease. That’s unacceptable, and that’s why I’m walking again.

“It’s an indiscriminate disease, affecting men and their loved ones across the UK. I’ve walked alongside many of them and am proud to call some friends. Their reaction and positive outlook despite being dealt the toughest of hands is simply unbelievable. I’m marching for them – and everyone affected – in a bid to fund the research to change the game.”

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson wears the Prostate Cancer UK pin badge in support the charity at every game.

“It’s going to be great to welcome Jeff and the walkers to Fir Park in September,” said the ‘Well manager,

“I’m sure there will be some tired legs arriving as Motherwell is the final stop, but every walker can be proud of the terrific efforts they’ll have made for Prostate Cancer UK.”
