    Jamie Semple in Scotland Under 19s squad

    Jamie Semple has been named in the Scotland Under 19 squad for their September friendlies with Japan in Spain.

    The Motherwell midfielder, who has made three first team appearances this campaign, makes the step up from Under 17 level for his country.

    Semple joins Allan Campbell and James Scott in being called up to pull on the dark blue, with the pair named in the Under 21 squad on Monday.

    Jamie’s brother Kyle is also one of three Motherwell players selected for a Scotland Under 17 training camp in Edinburgh.

    He joins goalkeeper Matthew Connolly and Max Johnston in being called up.

    Kerry Montgomery called into Northern Ireland squad

    Kerry Montgomery is again in the Northern Ireland squad, as they start their 2021 UEFA Women’s European Championship qualifying campaign.

    The Motherwell captain is in the selection for the home game with Norway on 30 August, which is followed by a trip to Wales on 3 September.

    Saturday sees the first Lanarkshire derby of the 2019/20 season, as Motherwell make the short trip to take on Hamilton Academical.

    Here’s what you need to know ahead of the match.

    Tale of the tape

    Motherwell have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five matches.

    In the league, Stephen Robinson’s side drew on the opening day at Livingston, before a home defeat to Celtic.

    Hamilton meanwhile lost 3-0 on the opening day at Ross County, before a 2-0 home win over Kilmarnock on matchday two.

    Both sides exited the Betfred Cup last weekend, with the ‘Well losing to Hearts and Accies losing at Kilmarnock.

    Head to head

    Motherwell have won three of the last five derby encounters between the two sides, with one draw and one Accies win in the mix.

    The last match came at New Douglas Park, as Marius Ogboe’s late equaliser cancelled out David Turnbull’s opener in a 1-1 draw.

    Reserves draw in opener at Ross County

    Reserves draw in opener at Ross County

    Motherwell came from behind to draw 3-3 at Ross County in their opening SPFL Reserve League match on Monday.

    A first half double from Simon Power put the hosts in control, with Harry Paton also netting in the first 45 for the Staggies.

    Dean Cornelius’ got the young Steelmen’s first goal, briefly halving the deficit when County led 2-0.

    Craig Tanner deflected free kick in the second half then brought Maurice Ross’ team back into contention again, before Cornelius’ close-range header with six minutes go to ensured a share of the spoils.

    Motherwell: Morrison, Brown, Devine, Hussain, Livingstone, Maguire, Semple, Cornelius, Robertson, Tanner, MacIver.

    Campbell and Scott in Scotland Under 21s

    Campbell and Scott in Scotland Under 21s

    Allan Campbell and James Scott have been called up to the Scotland Under 21 squad.

    The pair are in Scot Gemmill’s selection for the forthcoming UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying double header with San Marino and Croatia.

    Campbell is a regular at Under 21 level, having been capped 15 times.

    Scott is a first-time call-up to the squad, having impressed so far this season in claret and amber, scoring three goals in seven appearances.

    Scotland take on San Marino in Paisley on Thursday, 5 September at 7.30pm, before travelling to take on Croatia five days later.

    It’s back to action for the reserves on Monday, with a trip to face Ross County in the SPFL Reserve League.

    Maurice Ross’ side make the trip to the Highland Football Academy for their first game in the competition of the 2019/20 season.

    Kick off in Dingwall is at 2pm.

    Motherwell face Inverness CT in Scottish Cup

    Motherwell will play Inverness CT in the fourth round of the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup.

    The Caley Jags defeated Hutchison Vale 5-0 on Sunday, setting up the tie with Donald Jennow’s side, who booked their placed with a win over Partick Thistle last weekend.

    Motherwell v Inverness CT is currently due to be played at Ravenscraig on Sunday, 25 August. A kick-off time will be announced shortly.

    Inverness CT play in the third tier, and currently sit fifth in their table, nine points behind Aberdeen.

    The women of steel were the 2018 finalists in the competition, before losing to Hibernian at Firhill.
