    Liam Grimshaw signs new contract

    Liam Grimshaw signs new contract

Liam Grimshaw has extended his contract with Motherwell FC until the summer of 2022.

The influential defender, who has made 94 appearances across two spells with the club, has put pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half year deal.

“I’m really happy to be staying at a place I consider to be home,” Grimshaw said of his new deal.

“Motherwell is a club where I am settled and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead for us as a team.”

Grimshaw first came to Fir Park on loan from Manchester United in 2015, playing 16 times before a permanent move to Preston North End.

He would be reunited with his old team-mates in the summer of 2017, signing following his departure from the English club.

A key member of Stephen Robinson’s side, he has gone on to make a further 78 appearances for the club, starting in both the Betfred Cup and Scottish Cup finals in 2017/18 and nailing down a regular spot in defence.

“We’re delighted Liam is staying with us,” the Motherwell manager said.

“He is an all-action and committed player who gives us his all every single day. He’s the perfect professional and a person we’re delighted to have for a longer period of time.”

Opposition report: A look at Dundee

Opposition report: A look at Dundee

Motherwell travel to take on Dundee in the William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round on Saturday.

Here’s a look at our opponents.

    The story so far

Sitting inside the play-off spots in the Ladbrokes Championship, Dundee are continuing their promotion push after relegation last campaign.

City rivals Dundee United look practically out of sight in the automatic promotion spot, sitting 17 points clear of second-placed Inverness CT and 23 clear of their neighbours. But James McPake’s side are in the fight to join them via the play-offs.

With 20 league games played, they’ve amassed 29 points from eight wins, five draws and seven defeats, scoring 26 and conceding 28 on the way.

    Form guide

Dundee have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five matches.

With their weekend match with Ayr United postponed due to the weather, defeat came in their previous match at home to Inverness CT.

Before then, an away draw with Dundee United followed wins over Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle, and an away draw at Arbroath.

    Three to watch

    Jordan McGhee

Since breaking into the Hearts team at the age of 16, Jordan McGhee has enjoyed a career that has seen him rack up over 150 appearances at senior level.

The 23-year-old made a big impact early in his Hearts career and scored his first goal for the club in only his second substitute appearance – earning the Jambos a 2-1 win over Aberdeen.

McGhee was able to establish himself in the first-team at Tynecastle before making the switch to Middlesbrough in July 2015. The powerful right-back returned to Scotland when joined Falkirk, before signing for Dundee in June 2019. He has made 25 appearances in all competitions so far for the Dark Blues.

    Graham Dorrans

After falling out of favour at his boyhood heroes Rangers, Graham Dorrans made what many felt was a surprise move in joining Dundee in the Scottish Championship.

The midfielder has demonstrated his qualities in his 15 outings so far for the Dees, most notably in the most recent Dundee derby in which he scored the equalising goal – leading to James McPake describing him as ‘far too good’ to be playing in the Championship.

Dorrans, who has been capped 12 times for Scotland, made his most notable contribution for Rangers when he scored a double in the 2-1 win over Motherwell on the opening day of the 2017/18 season.

    Danny Johnson

One player who will be determined to make a big impact at Dens Park on Saturday evening is former ‘Well striker Danny Johnson.

Arriving at Fir Park from Gateshead in the summer of 2018 with an impressive scoring record, it was hoped that the Englishman would be able to bring that from north of the border. He started impressively, with goals against Livingston, Rangers and Dundee, though would find a run of regular appearances difficult to come by.

After finding game time limited in the second half of last season, Johnson made the move to Dens Park and so far this season has scored seven times in 20 appearances.

    Mikael Ndjoli signs on loan

    Mikael Ndjoli signs on loan

Mikael Ndjoli has joined Motherwell FC until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The forward has joined on loan from English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth, returning north of the border for the second time in his career.

The pacy 21-year-old previously spent time with Kilmarnock last campaign, scoring five goals across 781 minutes for the club.

“Mikael is quick, strong and gives us an option all across the forward line,” manager Stephen Robinson said. “He will immediately add competition for places.

“He’s already had experience of the Scottish league, which will be of benefit to us. Also, despite his age, he’s already been out on loan twice and got playing time.

“He’s already shown us the enthusiasm he has for this move since arriving on Monday.”

Ndjoli came through the youth ranks at Brentford and Millwall, before signing professional terms in July 2016.

He spent the first half of the season on loan at League One side Gillingham, before returning in January.

His move to Motherwell is pending international clearance. He will wear number 44.

“I’m really keen to get started at Motherwell,” he said on arriving at Fir Park.

“I’ve already seen how this club operates from my previous time in Scotland and I was immediately impressed again when I arrived on Monday. I can’t wait to get involved.”
