At the start of the 2020/21 season, we pledged to season ticket holders that they would see – in person – 19 Premiership matches at Fir Park in return for their purchase.

At that time, we were confident that supporters would be back home at some stage in the campaign, even as early as the autumn.

Now, as we know, that never happened, and we have played every match behind closed doors.

Despite that, our commitment remains unchanged. If you bought a season ticket for 2020/21, we will automatically give you a season ticket for 2021/22 for free.

You do not need to spend any more money. We will honour our pledge and send you a new season card soon.

We will forever be grateful for your decision to spend money last year when there was no certainty over what would happen next. We are incredibly appreciative, considering many of you will have been going through difficult times, worrying about your health, your family and perhaps even your job. We want to repay your faith by welcoming you back to Fir Park at no extra cost.

We are also mindful that some of you may need the money back from your season ticket instead, as an alternative to a free season ticket. A lot of fans have also approached us about making further donations to the club. In recognition of that, we are asking you to consider donating to our Community Trust and help us continue the excellent work they’ve done over the last year.

In addition, we are launching our Well In scheme, inviting you to make a donation towards season tickets for unemployed persons and low-income families in our area. We are thankful to everyone who would consider such a gesture, and it is possible to do so by visiting donate.motherwellfc.co.uk.

If you didn’t buy a season ticket in 2020/21 but want to now, we’d be delighted to welcome you back for the new campaign. Season tickets are now on sale – just go to tickets.motherwellfc.co.uk to buy. We’ve frozen our prices from last year, and we’re still offering the great incentive of up to two free season tickets for kids.

At the time of writing, we know that restrictions on large outdoor gatherings will begin to ease on Monday 17 May.

We are encouraged by the Scottish Government’s decision to allow 25% of Hampden Park to be open for the UEFA Euro 2020 matches in June. We hope to be able to update you all soon on plans for opening the gates here in time for the Premier Sports Cup group stages in July and the start of the Premiership campaign soon after.

How do I get my free season ticket?

If you bought a season ticket in 2020/21, we will give you a free season ticket for 2021/22.

You don’t need to do anything to claim your ticket. We will automatically activate your account for 2021/22.

We will send out new season ticket cards ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season, so look out for yours in the post. You’ll need this card to gain entry to the stadium. If you don’t receive yours before the first game of the season, please call us on 01698 333333.

How can I buy a season ticket if I didn’t have one in 2020/21?

It’s easy to do this. Head to tickets.motherwellfc.co.uk and then press ‘season tickets’ from the top menu.

You’ll then be given the option to choose where in the stadium you would like to sit. From there, you can create yourself an account and then buy your season ticket for the 2021/22 campaign. We’ve frozen our prices from the 2020/21 season.

How do I claim a refund?

If you would like a refund on your 2020/21 season ticket, we’re making it easy for you to do so.

Tale of the tape

The two teams have faced each other three times since United’s return to the top flight last summer.

The Terrors won the first, in a 1-0 victory at Fir Park back in August.

‘Well then conceded a last-second equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Tannadice on Boxing Day, before a 2-1 win for the Steelmen at home in February.

Graham Alexander’s Motherwell have won seven of their last 10 matches, drawing one, losing one and suffering defeat on penalties in the other.

Away from home, the Steelmen have three wins and two losses in their last five.

Dundee United lost 2-0 in the Scottish Cup semi-final at the weekend, with Hibernian instead booking their spot in the final.

In the last five in all competitions, Micky Mellon’s men have won two and lost three.

Motherwell were left to rue missed opportunities as they went down 3-0 at the hands of Celtic in SWPL1.

A first-half double for Rachel Donaldson and a goal from Sarah Teegarden was enough for the hosts to take all three points.

It would be Motherwell who had the best chance in the first 15 minutes, with Abby Skelton just missing Lori Gardner’s cutback for a tap in to break the deadlock.

The hosts, on the other hand, took their opportunity in the 17th minute. Some nice footwork from Ewens on the right wing saw her get to the byline and cross into the box for Donaldson to nod home.

Motherwell continued to try and get back in the game and missed a huge chance to level the game.

More good work from Gardner so the ball find its way to McDonald-Nguah, who laid the ball off for Gallon who fired over the bar from 18 yards.

Celtic then doubled their advantage in the 35th minute. After ‘Well failed to clear the initial cross, Donaldson pounced and finished into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later, Celtic secured the three points.

Celtic’s high pressing forcing Motherwell to lose possession. A cross from the right-hand side from Filbey was then met by Teegarden, who headed in.

Motherwell came out in the second half and put in a spirited performance and limited Celtic from adding to their advantage.

Celtic continued to control most of the possession and the game, however could not find the back of the net again.

Declan Gallagher has signed a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen FC.

He will leave Fir Park when his contract expires at the end of June.

We thank Declan for his contributions across the last two years.

The two teams have met four times since Motherwell’s promotion to the top flight in 2019.

A 0-0 draw away at K-Park marked the first game in SWPL1 for the women of steel.

That was then followed by a narrow 2-1 home defeat, before Celtic then extended their winning run in the fixture to three.

Title-chasing Celtic find themselves five points behind leaders Glasgow City with 13 matches in the 21-game campaign played.

Since defeat to City in the opening game back from the season’s pause, Celtic have won five games in a row, including a home win over fellow challengers Rangers at Celtic Park.

During that time, they’ve netted 20 goals, conceding just twice.

Motherwell have won one and lost four of their last five league matches.

A victory against Hearts came alongside losses to Hibernian, Rangers, Spartans and Glasgow City.

Motherwell fell to a 6-0 defeat against title-chasing Rangers in SWPL1 on Sunday.

It took 20 minutes for the visitors to get ahead. Arnott’s cross from the left met the forward run of defender Swaby, who capitalised on Chelsie Watson’s missed header to steal in at the back post and finish.

Rangers continued to build attacks by stretching Motherwell across the full width of the park and they got their second on the 25-minute mark.

Docherty’s clipped cross from the left wasn’t cleared and it fell to Cornet, who smashed the ball into the net from 10 yards.

Five minutes later, it was three. Another ball from the left found the arriving Ness on the left of the box, taking the ball first time and lashing a shot into the top-left corner of the goal.

‘Well continued to defend endless balls into their box but would fall further behind 10 minutes into the second half.

A corner from the right landed on top of a cluster of bodies at the back post, with the ball hitting the post and falling kindly to Reilly at point-blank range.

Swinging at the ball, her goalbound effort hit the helpless goalkeeper Cunningham on its way in.

Shortly after, it was five. Ness’ reverse ball for Arnot matched the run into the box on the left, with the Scotland international finding the bottom-right corner of the net from a tight angle.

The women of steel continued to press and harass their full-time opponents but would fall to a sixth with 25 minutes to go.

Docherty’s clipped ball into the six-yard box found two Rangers players unopposed, with Reilly stealing in to knock the ball home.

A fine, controlled team performance saw on-form Motherwell record their third consecutive win since the league split.

Goals from Devante Cole and Stephen O’Donnell at the beginning and end of the second half earned the Steelmen a fully deserved three points, which elevated them to seventh place in the league and enhance their claim to be top of the bottom six.

Kilmarnock created a couple of chances after falling behind but otherwise the Ayrshire men were largely second best as their relegation worries deepened.

Both clubs entered this game having to pick themselves off the canvas after the trauma of crashing out of the Scottish Cup on penalties last weekend.

In Kilmarnock’s case they also needed an immediate response to keep their escape from relegation on track.

Conversely, Graham Alexander’s men, now safe from relegation, were motivated by avenging the heavy defeat inflicted on them at Rugby Park five weeks ago.

The ‘Well boss made three changes from the side which lost the penalty shootout at Easter Road last Saturday. Jake Hastie, Steven Lawless and Sam Foley, for his first start, came into a revamped midfield.

The Steelmen were aiming to make it five league wins from their last six games, an impressive record that earned Alexander the league’s Manager of the Month award for April.

Motherwell looked determined to continue that winning run pressing the Rugby Park men deep into their own half from the start.

Within three minutes Christopher Long tried his luck with a powerful drive from wide on the left but Danny Rogers was untroubled as the ball raced into his goal’s side netting.

The next move was better constructed and deserved a goal. After a swift five-man move which started with Stephen O’Donnell on the right, his opposite number Nathan McGinley whipped in a cross which Haste nodded over the bar from around six yards.

Another fine passing move followed only for Long to be adjudged offside as he was about to pull the trigger from 10 yards.

Hastie, working hard on the right flank, earned a corner which was only cleared as far as Foley but from 25 yards he sliced his shot wide of goal.

As the torrential downpour watered the manicured pitch and made the cries of players and coaches inaudible, Killie finally made their presence felt around Liam Kelly’s goal.

After 35 minutes Ricki Lamie conceded a free-kick to the right of the penalty area and the ‘Well ‘keeper made the first save of the game, comfortably holding Alan Power’s rather tame effort on goal.

As half-time approached ‘Well regained the majority of possession but despite carefully working the ball towards the visitor’s box the final pass lacked conviction and the precision

Although the rain had stopped at the interval the pitch was left greasy.

Within two minutes ‘Well were equally slick as they opened the scoring.

Foley fed a low pass to Cole who slipped the ball in front of Long at the edge of the area. And although he slipped as he dragged the ball into the box, Cole latched onto the loose ball and curl in beyond Rogers to bag his 11th goal of the season.

Long, lying deeper was involved in the next couple of moves setting O’Donnell down the right before taking a pass from Cole and setting up Hastie at the corner of the box.

As Killie pressed forward in pursuit of an equaliser it almost came in the 56th minute.

It would have been a fluke, though, when Lafferty’s harmless drive from 20 yards clipped Gallagher to send the ball spinning within a metre of Kelly’s left-hand post.

With relegation results elsewhere going against his men, Tommy Wright made a triple substitution on the hour mark.

And almost immediately they carved out an opening. Declan Gallagher could only nod Chris Burke’s cross towards Lafferty and his thumping volley from 12 yards forced Kelly into a fine acrobatic save diving to his right to punch the ball away.

With Motherwell hoping to catch the committed Killie on the break, Burke came close to grabbing the equaliser when from 25 yards his measured shot clipped the top of Kelly’s crossbar.

As the crosses into the box mounted, Bevis Mugabi and Barry Maguire came on to bolster the home defence.

However, with five minutes remaining, ‘Well’s defence turned into attack as the Fir Park doubled their advantage.

Cole did well to wriggle away from a couple of defenders at the corner of the box. When he toe-poked the ball across the visitor’s penalty area it found O’Donnell racing in to drive the ball low and hard beyond the exposed ‘keeper and wrap up another three points.
