    Linfield test for Steelmen

Motherwell end their pre-season trip to Northern Ireland with a friendly against Linfield on Saturday.

Kick off at Windsor Park is at 1.30pm. Tickets are on sale from the office at the stadium from 12pm on the day and cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

The game presents a second opportunity for the travelling squad to get game time under their belts, having fielded two different outfield teams in either half of a 1-0 loss at Crusaders on Wednesday night.

David Turnbull to stay at Motherwell

David Turnbull to stay at Motherwell

David Turnbull is to remain a Motherwell player, with a proposed move to Celtic FC no longer taking place.

An agreement was reached with the Glasgow club on 12 June, subject to the player agreeing personal terms, which he did, and undergoing a medical.

During that medical process, an issue was identified that will require David to have immediate preventative surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.

Celtic were still keen to sign the player despite this matter arising. But having presented revised transfer terms to Motherwell, the clubs could not reach an agreement.

David will now remain at Fir Park and will shortly have an operation which will rule him out of any football for an extended period, the exact length to be determined following surgery.

We will give David all the support he needs during this process. We wish him the best with his procedure and rehabilitation, and look forward to watching him play in claret and amber again in the near future.

‘Well lose opening friendly at Crusaders

Twenty-one players got playing time as Motherwell lost 1-0 to Crusaders in their opening pre-season friendly.

Rory Hale’s first half effort from close range was the difference between the two teams, as manager Stephen Robinson changed his outfield players entirely for both halves.

Motherwell’s first game of the 2019/20 campaign saw plenty of composed play, but scoring chances were at a premium.

Against an opposition preparing for a tilt at UEFA Europa League qualification, the mixed ‘Well teams continued preparation which had included two double training sessions in the two days previous, with more to come before Saturday’s tour closer at Linfield.

Motherwell first half: Carson, Grimshaw, Hartley, Gallagher, Livingstone, Maguire, Campbell, Sloth, Long, Johnson, Semple.

Motherwell second half: Carson, Tait, Devine, Dunne, Carroll, Donnelly, Cornlius, McAlear, Polworth, Hylton, Scott.

    Colts to face Spartans

Motherwell’s Colts side will face Spartans at home in the first round of the 2019/20 Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.

Maurice Ross’ team, who reached the quarter finals of the competition last season, will take on their opponents on Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 August 2019.

Should the young Steelmen be successful, they will then be in second round action away to Clyde on Tuesday 13 or Wednesday 14 August.

Venues, kick off times and ticket prices will be announced shortly.

Tickets on the gate cost £11 for adults and £7 for concessions. Turnstiles will open at 6.15pm.

The Steelmen will then face Linfield at Windsor Park on Saturday, 29 June with a 1.30pm kick off.

Motherwell faced Crusaders last summer at Seaview, with Danny Johnson’s 90th minute winner on a scorching hot day ensuring a 1-0 victory.
