An experienced A-League player, Johnny Koutroumbis made his first move outside of Australia in the summer of 2024, joining Motherwell on a two-year deal.
Having turned out for Newcastle Jets, Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers, Koutroumbis has made 145 appearances in the Australian top flight. A right-back who likes to offer his attacking services, the 26-year-old was looking to prove his ability outside of Australia after fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing in Europe.
Primed and fit, Koutroumbis was raring to go in pre-season, but after pulling his calf in the opening days of pre-season, he missed out on the first three months of the action in Scotland.
Setting him back physically and mentally, Koutroumbis had to be patient and made his debut against Dundee United in November 2024. But minutes would be in short supply, and it wouldn’t be until the latter stages of the season before the full-back got regular minutes. Replacing Kofi Balmer at the right-side of the back three, he looked to have nailed down a starting spot until he received a red card against Dundee. He made it back in time for the last game of the season and is now raring to go for 25/26.
