Zimbabwean international Tawanda Maswanhise initially signed on a short-term deal till January in August 2024.

A product of the Leicester City youth academy, Maswanhise developed through the ranks with the Foxes before cementing himself as a ‘shining light’ in the club’s Premier League 2 Division 1 squad.

The forward made seven under-18 appearances throughout his breakthrough season in 2019/20 before making his development squad debut against West Ham United in 2021. The youngster soon made the bench for the senior side two months later against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Goals continued to follow Maswanhise in the club’s development side, netting 22 times across 61 appearances in Premier League 2. The 21-year-old’s performances were rewarded when he made his senior debut as a second-half substitute against Millwall in a 3-2 victory during the third round of the FA Cup under manager Enzo Maresca.

Capable of playing centrally or as a winger, Maswanhise netted a hat-trick as a trialist for English League Two outfit Stockport County after departing the Foxes this summer. The Zimbabwean international, capped five times by his country, extended his contract until June 2026 in early October, having impressed from the off.

Showing skill, flair and natural finishing ability, Maswnahise consistently gets fans off their seats and is quickly making a name for himself. He finished his first season as joint top scorer with six goals, with Maswanhise’s biggest highlight coming at the death in a match against Dundee in May 2025, where he rose highest to head home the winner for ten-man Motherwell, which also secured their Premiership status.

In his second season, he started off in blistering fashion in the group-stage of the Premier Sports Cup, scoring four goals in four games. That impressive form saw the club tie down Maswanhise once again, extending his contract until the summer of 2027, with the option of a further year.

Maswanhise repaid the faith shown in him by the club and went on to win the Golden Boot in the Scottish Premiership for the 25/26 season. The forward scored 22 goals in 44 games, whilst also scoring one goal for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations in December. Becoming the first Motherwell player since Michael Higdon in 2013 to win the Golden Boot, Maswanhise also picked up two SPFL Player of the Month awards and the Motherwell FC Young Player of the Year Award, whilst also being nominated for the PFA Player of the Year and SFWA Player of the Year.

Named in the PFA Team of the Season, Maswanhise was unstoppable at points during the 25/26 season as he adjusted to playing through the middle of the front line.
