The first inductee of the 2022 Hall of Fame is Keith Lasley.

Lasley is one of the highest appearance holders in Fir Park history, playing almost five hundred games in claret and amber and was rewarded for his impeccable service with a testimonial match against Bolton Wanderers in 2015.

By that point, the legendary midfielder skippered the club to consecutive runners-up league finishes and wore the armband in Champions League qualifying matches in a playing career spanning 18 years.

The 42-year-old joined joined the Steelmen in the late 1990s. He had just finished an electrical apprenticeship at the time and two goals in a trial match convinced then boss Billy Davies to offer him a professional contract.

He made his debut against Rangers at Ibrox in December of 2000 and went on to spend more than two decades at Fir Park as a player, captain, coach and, most recently, assistant manager.

Along with 2020 Hall of Fame inductee Joe Wark, Keith is the only man to have won the club’s Player of the Year on three occasions – in 2011, 2012 and in 2014 and is second only to current boss Steven Hammell in european appearances for Motherwell FC.

Keith hung up his boots in 2017 to become Stephen Robinson’s assistant where he played his part in the team reaching both the League Cup and Scottish Cup Final in the same season, as well as a third-place finish and a return to Europe in 2019-20.

He left the club in June to start a new non-football role with St Mirren, but will forever remain a legend of Motherwell FC.

Our highly-anticipated Hall of Fame dinner will welcome its fourth batch of inductees this November.

The event, launched in 2019, has already paid special tribute to the legendary names of the club’s 136-year history.

For the first time, the dinner will take place at Dalziel Park Hotel on Friday 18 November, with host Tam Cowan inducted five new names, including Keith.

The event is priced at £64 for adults and £30 for children aged under 12.

The SPFL/SFA have confirmed our fixture with Ross County, that was due to be played on Saturday 10 September, has been postponed as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Details of the re-arranged fixture will be published and communicated in due course.

Information on tickets and potential refunds, will also be communicated as soon as it’s known.

Kevin van Veen is your player of the month for August.

Our number nine is in red hot form, scoring six goals in four games in the month of August.

Scoring the winner at Aberdeen, the opener at Kilmarnock and notching a hat trick in the Premier Sports Cup against Inverness, the Dutchman has played a key role in what was a strong month for Steven Hammell’s men.

Stuart McKinstry has been named in Scotland’s Under 21 squad. 

Scotland are in friendly action when they face Northern Ireland in a double header later this month in preparation for the next European Championship qualify campaign.

Scotland will travel to Belfast to take on Northern Ireland on Thursday 22 September at the Danny Blanchflower Stadium.

Kick-off is 2:30pm.

Northern Ireland will then make the journey over to Paisley on Sunday 25 September in the second match at The SMiSA Stadium.

Kick-off is 2pm.

Motherwell return to SWPL action on Sunday 11 September when they take on Partick Thistle at Petershill Park.

Kick-off is 1pm.

An adult ticket costs £7 while kids go free.

There will be a live stream of the game show on the Partick Thistle youtube channel.

Coverage will begin around 10 minutes before kick off.

Story of the Match

Partick Thistle are yet to find their first win of the 2022/23 SWPL campaign however drew their last two league games against Aberdeen and Spartans.

Motherwell have had a tricky opening run of fixtures to start the league campaign. They have faced three of the top four from last season in the opening four games.

Picking up a win against Hibernian and conceding a last minute goal against Glasgow City, Celtic came away comfortable 8-0 winners in their last outing.

Thistle and the women of steel faced each other four times last season, with three of the games ending in a draw and Thistle winning one. A win could see Motherwell move up to fourth in the table.

It’s a journey north to the Highlands as the Steelmen take on the Staggies at the Global Energy Stadium

The story of the match

The Steelmen will be looking to get back to winning ways, following a frustrating draw last weekend at home to Dundee United and a defeat away to Kilmarnock.

All four of County’s points have came at home. They have one win in seven in what has been a tough start to the Premiership campaign.

‘Well fans will have fond memories of the last trip to Dingwall. Kevin van Veen’s penalty sealed a big three points which proved vital in securing fifth place and European football last season.

Match officials

With competition for a spot in the first-team at an all time high, a mixture of young and experienced players lined up in Motherwell’s opening Reserve League fixture against Queen’s Park.

A comfortable 4-0 win for the steelmen however the match was more important to the players for the minutes they got to ensure they are ready to step up to first-team action whenever called upon.

Neil Alexander is our new head of goalkeeping. 

The 44-year-old had a 26-year playing career where he made 465 club appearances for the likes of Cardiff, Ipswich, Rangers and Crystal Palace.

A former Scotland international, Alexander joins up with Steven Hammell’s backroom staff and fills the position vacated by Andy Dibble last month.

“I’m really happy to be joining Motherwell,” Alexander said.

“It’s a great club and it is an exciting time to be working here with Steven and the rest of the coaching staff.

Alexander was most recently goalkeeping coach at Dunfermline after starting last season with Dundee United.

“The goalkeeping position is critical to our success” manager Steven Hammell added.

“Liam Kelly is doing very well but we always want to try and improve the players. Our goalkeeper is not just a shot stopper and goal kick taker, they play a huge part in our style.

“We rate Liam really highly and our expectations on goalkeepers are now massive. We have a tight group of staff who I trust, but more importantly, are highly skilled, motivated and hungry to improve players.

“Neil adds value and experience to our current coaching staff and I am looking forward to working with him going forward.”

Defender Max Johnston has joined Championship side Cove Rangers on loan for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old full back has made two first team appearances for Motherwell and impressed on loan at Queen of the South last season.

“It’s a really good opportunity for me to go get games under my belt,” Max Johnston added.

“They’re a good team with ambition, who play in the Championship which is a good level to go test myself.”

Johnston was on loan in the Championship last season where he featured in 31 games.

“Max has a really bright future at Motherwell,” manager Steven Hammell said.

“He is a big part of our long-term plans at this club. We have a lot of competition from two Scotland internationals at right full back, with Stephen O’Donnell and Paul McGinn, so it’s very important he continues to play games and learn his trade.

“Cove Rangers is a great loan move for him, playing in the Championship will help enhance his ability and will stand him in good stead for the future.”
