Matty Connelly

Matty Connelly has been enjoying a run of games between the sticks with Airdrie this season in the Championship.

He has started and played all 90 minutes in each of the last eight matches for the Diamonds. Keeping one clean sheet in the process, Airdrie are finding life difficult in the Championship this season and are currently bottom of the league with 0 wins thus far.

Scott Williamson

Defender Scott Williamson has picked up plenty minutes for Cowdenbeath so far this season.

He has played a further four games since our last report, starting three and coming on as a second half substitute in the other match. With five wins in 12 matches in the Lowland League, Cowdenbeath currently sit ninth in the table. Williamson recorded his second assist in Cowdenbeath colours in their last outing against East Stirlingshire.

He played the full 90 minutes in Motherwell B’s KDM Evolution Trophy opener against Hamilton, where the young team earned their only point of the campaign so far, where Williamson and the rest of the backline kept a clean sheet in the 0-0 stalemate.

Ewan Wilson

Ewan Wilson has got his first minutes for Raith Rovers under his belt since our last report, starting the last three matches against Airdrie, Arbroath and Ross County. Beating the Diamonds and drawing 0-0 with Arbroath, Wilson played the full 90 minutes against Airdrie and Ross County, and was substituted on the 83rd minute in his second appearance.

Rovers are third in the standings after a strong start to the season, as they look to keep up with leaders St Johnstone.

Olly Whyte

Olly Whyte is up to 12 appearances for Stenhousemuir already this season. A regular feature in League One, Whyte has also been representing the Warriors in the KDM Evolution Trophy.

Whyte scored his first Stenhousemuir goal against Peterhead last month. Out of his 12 appearances this season, ten have been from starts. Stenhousemuir have only lost one game this season which came against Hamilton, and have won all their KDM Evolution Trophy matches.

Nathan Lawson

Nathan Lawson has also featured regularly for Cowdenbeath and Motherwell B since our last report. The 17-year-old forward is now on seven appearances for Cowdenbeath, starting two matches.

Despite elimination from the Scottish Cup to the hands of Benburb, Lawson and Cowdenbeath will be pleased with their start in the Lowland League, having only lost five games from the opening 12.

Lawson has also played in three of Motherwell B’s KDM Evolution Trophy matches, and found the back of the net against East Kilbride in their second match of the league phase.

Regan Charles-Cook

After missing out on Grenada’s fixtures in September to focus on getting match fit, Charles-Cook is back in the Grenada squad for their upcoming matches.

Grenada have two friendlies against the British Virgin Islands on Wednesday 8 October in their home country, before facing Cuba on Sunday 12 October.

Tawanda Maswanhise

The winger has been included in the latest Zimbabwe squad, ahead of two World Cup qualifying matches during the October international window.

The Warriors take on South Africa first on Friday 10 October, before facing Lesotho on Monday 13 September.

After a difficult two games in September, Zimbabwe are unable to qualify from their group. They are currently sitting bottom on four points. However, they will be looking to move up the table in these final matches in the group.

Elijah Just

Elijah Just will not travel for international duty with New Zealand this month.

Just was called up by his country for their two friendly matches against Poland and Norway but will remain in Scotland as he nears a return to action following a spell on the sidelines, and aims to be back in full training early next week.

Experienced goalkeeper Chloe Logan has completed a loan deal until the end of the season from Celtic. 

The SWPL and Scottish Cup title winner became the first player in the history of Celtic Women to graduate and play through every age category before making her senior first-team appearance.

The 29-year-old stopper established herself as the first-choice player between the sticks after a spell at Stirling University. She returned for her second Celtic debut in 2019, after being named in the Old Firm derby in front of a capacity crowd at K-Park. 

From that moment, Logan remained Celtic’s number one, and even earned a place in then Scotland manager Pedro Martinez Losa’s 26-player first-team squad in the Pinatar Cup, alongside lee Alexander, Eartha Cummings and Jenna Fife in 2022 until a serious knee injury left her sidelined until 2023.

“I’m really excited to be at the club,” Logan said.

“I really wanted to get back playing regular first-team action, and Motherwell was a really exciting opportunity for me.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Ready for more competitive action, Logan has joined the women of steel until the end of the season after signing a three-year contract extension at Celtic last season.

“This is a really strong addition to our goalkeeping department,” Head Coach Paul brownlie added.

“After Emma was recalled by Hearts, we knew we needed to find an experienced player between the sticks, and Chloe is exactly that.

“Chloe is extremely experienced at the top of the women’s game in Scotland, and will provide vital competition between herself and Rebecca this season.”

No app = no ticket.

Don’t have it? Download it from your phone’s app store. Register with the same email as your Motherwell FC account.

Step 2 – Buy Your Ticket

Tickets are going on sale to season tickets holder first. If you wish to buy, ONCE YOU HAVE THE HAMPDEN PARK TICKETS APP, you can purchase online by clicking here.

There are NO paper tickets. Everything is digital.

There are NO limits to how many you can buy.

Step 3 – Get Ready for Matchday

Once you have the Hampden Park tickets app and have purchased your ticket via the Motherwell FC online ticketing platform, your ticket will show up in the Hampden App.

The QR code will go live on the morning of the game.

We strongly recommend you open and load your ticket at home before leaving for the match as this will save inconvenience at the turnstiles.

Using the Hampden Tickets App 

• Download the App (phones only, not tablets).
• Register with your ticket email. Accept terms. Allow Bluetooth/contacts if you want to transfer tickets easily.
• Verify – a 6-digit code will be emailed to you every time you log in.
• Find your tickets – they’ll appear in “My Tickets” (the week of the game, or within minutes if you buy last-minute).
• See match details – seat, entry info, stadium maps are under each ticket.
• Transfer tickets – hit “Transfer,” enter the person’s email, and send. They’ll need the app too.

Hospitality areas will open at 12 noon, buses leave at 4pm prompt and hospitality guests can return to Fir Park following the match where a pay bar will be in operation.

Supporters Buses

The club are running supporters buses from Fir Park to Hampden. The price is £20 per person. Buses will leave Fir Park at 4pm, with the Cooper Stand and Cooper Bar open from 12 for refreshments.

Supporters can enjoy live entertainment from singers Jamie Keenan and Callum Brand in addition to free face painting. Food and drink will be available from the kiosks in the Cooper stand before the match.

With the first league win of the season in the bag last week, Motherwell travelled to the home of the Scottish champions, Celtic.

Many were intrigued to see if the Steelmen could implement their style of play against Celtic, but Jens Berthel Askou’s men did just that and put in a terrific display.

After going one down to a penalty, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos drew his side level with a powerful header before the half time mark. Ten years on since their last victory at Celtic Park, Stamatelopoulos put Motherwell on track to end that drought, with the Aussie netting from the spot to put Motherwell ahead.

Motherwell’s brave approach on the ball was commended and impressive largely during the 90 minutes, but Celtic capitalised on poor decision-making to net a leveller and give Celtic hope of turning the game around.

After steadying the game and looking likely to get a point, Motherwell’s hearts would be broken in stoppage time when Daizen Maeda scored to spark wild celebrations amongst the home support, a compliment in itself for the effort and performance Motherwell displayed on the day.

A harsh and cruel ending wouldn’t dampen the Motherwell spirits, as focus turns to the return to action following the international break against Falkirk.

Just last featured against Dundee at the start of September, but manager Jens Berthel Askou confirmed prior to the match against Celtic that the forward was close to a return.

Motherwell tasted defeat for the first time this season, and for the first time in 14 matches, losing 3-2 to Celtic in Glasgow.

A double from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos had the visitors in the lead, but a cruel injury-time winner from Daizen Maeda consigned the Steelmen to defeat for the first time.

Following a 14-game unbeaten run, the club’s best unbeaten run since 1952, Jens Berthel Askou and the squad travelled to the east end of Glasgow to face a Celtic side that was yet to taste defeat in domestic action this season.

Paul McGinn returned to the starting 11 for the first time since the end of August, with the Motherwell skipper making his 100th appearance for the club in the process. Johnny Koutroumbis also came into the 11 following his first Motherwell goal last weekend, with Stephen O’Donnell dropping to the bench.

The Steelmen have adopted a brave possession-based style of play and didn’t deviate from that throughout the opening exchanges, although Celtic almost took advantage as Callum McGregor took advantage of a loose pass, but Calum Ward was on hand to make a fine save.

Motherwell had their fair share of the ball but couldn’t carve out a chance to test Kasper Schmeichel in the Celtic goal.

A cross from the right was headed clear as far as McGregor, whose volley into the ground skidded up and appeared to hit the hand of Regan Charles-Cook. Referee Calum Scott pointed to the spot, and Kalechi Iheanacho slotted home from the spot.

Well continued to look dangerous and got a reward for their play shortly before half-time.

Tawanda Maswanhise delivered a low cross from the right, which Stamatelopoulos stooped low and headed in. After a long VAR check, despite clearly being onside, the goal eventually stood to send the sold-out Motherwell contingent wild.

The second half continued in the same vein – Motherwell being confident and composed on the ball and trying to take command of the game.

Next, a huge moment in the game as Maswanhise edged his way into the box and went down under a challenge. The referee didn’t seem interested, but VAR stepped in, and upon reflection, there was clear contact on the Zimbabwean’s foot.

Stamatelopoulos stepped up and notched his third goal in two games, blasting past Schmeichel.

The lead didn’t last too long, however.

Well tried to pass out from the back, but Benjamin Nygren was on hand to intercept and slot home for the equaliser. It seemed cruel on the Motherwell side, who had played superbly, but a further sting in the tail came along.

In added time, the third minute of seven added, Celtic worked the ball down the left, and the ball was eventually crossed to Daizen Maeda to nod home.
