Matchday 10 of the 2025/26 SWPL campaign awaits the women of steel this weekend, as they travel through the M90 towards the North-East coast when they face Montrose at Links Park on Sunday.

The women of steel will have their eyes set on redemption after enduring three back-to-back defeats to both Hibernian and Celtic. Motherwell sit eighth in the SWPL table, two points shy of the Gable Endies in sixth.

Motherwell will be keen to right the wrongs of their home meeting against Montrose earlier this season, with the visitors leaving K-Park with a comfortable 4-1 victory.

The Tale of the Tape 

Motherwell 

A five-nil defeat to the defending champions a fortnight ago would’ve certainly frustrated Motherwell, who certainly showcased a stronger performance than displayed in recent weeks, but five consecutive set-piece goals left the women of steel with much to reflect on, as they return to competitive action this weekend.

Motherwell will be keen to separate themselves from the sides sitting towards the bottom of the league. Paul Brownlie’s side could move 10-points clear of Hamilton at the foot of the Premier League table if they secure victory at Links Park.

Full focus will be on kickstarting Motherwell’s away form, as the women of steel have yet to pick up a point on the road after defeats to Glasgow City, Rangers and Hearts. Victory would propel the women of steel back into the top-six if results elsewhere remain favourable.

Montrose

The hosts lead Motherwell by two-points in the final top-six place, earning victories in three of their nine SWPL ties this season. Montrose returned to winning ways a fortnight ago, defeating Partick Thistle two-nil at Petershill Park.

Manager Jens Berthel Askou is calm and measured going into Saturday’s big semi-final clash against St Mirren, and believes St Mirren are a team who play to their strengths, meaning his team will have to deal with those individual battles.

Tickets are going on sale to season tickets holder first. If you wish to buy, ONCE YOU HAVE THE HAMPDEN PARK TICKETS APP, you can purchase online by clicking here.

There are NO paper tickets. Everything is digital.

There are NO limits to how many you can buy.

Step 3 – Get Ready for Matchday

Once you have the Hampden Park tickets app and have purchased your ticket via the Motherwell FC online ticketing platform, your ticket will show up in the Hampden App.

The QR code will go live on the morning of the game.

We strongly recommend you open and load your ticket at home before leaving for the match as this will save inconvenience at the turnstiles.

Using the Hampden Tickets App 

• Download the App (phones only, not tablets).
• Register with your ticket email. Accept terms. Allow Bluetooth/contacts if you want to transfer tickets easily.
• Verify – a 6-digit code will be emailed to you every time you log in.
• Find your tickets – they’ll appear in “My Tickets” (the week of the game, or within minutes if you buy last-minute).
• See match details – seat, entry info, stadium maps are under each ticket.
• Transfer tickets – hit “Transfer,” enter the person’s email, and send. They’ll need the app too.

Hospitality areas will open at 12 noon, buses leave at 4pm prompt and hospitality guests can return to Fir Park following the match where a pay bar will be in operation.

Supporters Buses – SOLD OUT

The club are running supporters buses from Fir Park to Hampden. Buses will leave Fir Park at 4pm, with the Cooper Stand and Cooper Bar open from 12 for refreshments.

Supporters can enjoy live entertainment from singers Jamie Keenan and Callum Brand in addition to free face painting. Food and drink will be available from the kiosks in the Cooper stand before the match. 

Travel Guidance

Travel advice will be to allow plenty of time for travel, purchase tickets in advance and can also use M-tickets.

There will be queueing systems in place at Glasgow Central, Kings Park and Mount Florida.

Motherwell fans are asked to travel to and from Kings Park.

Access to enter Mount Florida station is via Cathkinview Road , all other station entrance are closed , including access to the Langside College carpark which should be accessed via Battlefield Rd.

Motherwell’s Fortunes

It has been the perfect week of preparation for Motherwell thus far, securing back-to-back wins over both Livingston and Dundee United. That’s the first time Jens Berthel Askou’s side have achieved the feat this season in the league.

Tawanda Maswanhise has continued his excellent goalscoring form this season, notching his ninth goal of the season against Dundee United on Wednesday night.

Elliot Watt also got off the mark for the Steelmen, with a fine effort under the Fir Park lights.

Opposition Report

St Mirren were also in midweek action, drawing 2-2 with league leaders Hearts. The result was littered with controversy, however, as St Mirren scored to make it 3-1 on the evening, before a VAR intervention ruled the strike out for offside during the phase of play.

Dan Nlundulu scored his second goal in as many games on Wednesday night as the striker has started to find his feet for his new club.

Former Motherwell man Mikael Mandron remains St Mirren’s top scorer for the season on five goals.

Despite a late winner against Livingston four days ago, manager Jens Berthel Askou wanted his side to have far greater control in the match and asked his players to up their levels against Dundee United. 

Heading into a semi-final match this weekend, the Steelmen were looking to take as much momentum as possible into the match against St Mirren.

And right from the start, Motherwell dominated possession and limited Dundee United to very little. They were rewarded for their dominance before the half time interval thanks to Tawanda Maswanhise’s ninth goal of the campaign.

Barring a ten minute period, Motherwell continued to be on top in the second-half and Elliot Watt made sure of the points with just over ten minutes left to play, scoring his first goal for the club and setting up a blockbuster Saturday at Hampden Park.

Motherwell made it back-to-back wins with a comfortable win over Dundee United and left them perfectly prepared for Saturday’s semi-final date at Hampden.

Tawanda Maswanhise, with his ninth goal of the season, gave the Steelmen a deserved lead just before the interval. And although not as dominating in the second half, a superb strike from Elliot Watt was enough to seal the points.

There were five changes to the side that defeated Livingston at the weekend. Paul McGinn, Johnny Koutroumbis, Callum Slattery, Callum Hendry and Regan Charles-Cook all started in place of Liam Gordon, Emmanuel Longelo, Elijah Just, Ibrahim Said and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos.

From the kick-off, United raced into the Well box, but their appeals for a handball were quickly dismissed by VAR.

After that dramatic start, though, there was little action in either box, as Jim Goodwin’s men were content to allow ‘Well to play tidy possession football around the middle of the park.

It took until the 26th minute for either keeper to make a save. But after dragging the ball to the edge of the box, Hendry’s low shot posed no problems for Yevhen Kucherenko. Two minutes later, intricate passing around the visitor’s box gave Slattery the chance to curl a shot towards goal before it took a deflection off target.

At the other end, where Ward was only kept busy with his feet, he made his first firm hold of Zac Sapsford’s free kick.

The Steelmen suffered a setback after 37 minutes when Stephen O’Donnell limped off, with Emmanuel Longelo adopting his usual slot on the left. It took the substitute only five minutes to make an impact.

Before then, though, Stephen Welsh lofted a long ball through the middle which Maswanhise chased into the box, forcing a great save from Kucherenko, before the flag was raised for offside.

The Zimbabwe international didn’t have to wait long for his next pop at goal.

Three minutes from the interval Charles -Cook started a fast break on the left before feeding Longelo. When he swept the ball across the United penalty, it found Maswanhise nipping in to slam it past the ‘keeper from six-yards and provide ‘Well with a lead their first-half dominance deserved.

Having held the same advantage in their last home game with Falkirk, the Well fans were hoping the side could maintain the upper hand in the second half.

Although the Tannadice side made the better start to the half, it was Well who came close to extending their lead after 56 minutes. Once again Maswanhise was the threat, bursting through the middle before forcing the keeper to dive low to push the ball away.

It wasn’t cleared from the penalty area, and Charles-Cook set up Hendry for a short mazy run and shot which was blocked on the line by a couple of United defenders.

With 64 minutes on the clock, the Well boss freshened up his side, sending on Liam Gordon, Ibrahim Said and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos.

It was Motherwell’s turn to survive a goal scare seven minutes later when Luca Stephenson, with plenty of the goal to aim at, smacked the ball off the foot of the post and then watched as the ball rebounded past him, when he should have netted the equaliser.

United paid dearly for that miss when the home doubled its lead 14 minutes from time. Longelo again provided the assist, carrying the ball from the halfway line towards the visitor’s box. His cross-field pass found Watt with time and space, and from 25 yards his wonderful drive ripped into the net with Kucherenko diving to his left in vain.

The email will advise you to check your Hampden Ticket app to ensure your purchased tickets have been uploaded. This process may take a few hours, so please don’t be concerned if this hasn’t already happened.

We ask for you to be patient and if the tickets have not appeared in the app by Thursday 30 October at 10am, then please contact the Motherwell FC Ticket Office.

There has been a recent update on the Hampden Ticket App therefore, each supporter should update their app if not already done so, to receive their ticket.

Sales online will cease at 4pm on Friday 31 October.

The Ticket Office will be open from 11am-12pm on Saturday 1 November. This is the absolute last chance to buy tickets for the match.

Callum Slattery is pleased to be back out on the pitch, but is even happier that the team picked up an important result upon his return. 

Slattery explains about the lack of distraction the semi-final is causing in the MFC camp, saying that full focus is on this crucial match against Dundee United.
