Travel Logistics & Getting There

• Flights: Most fans will travel via Edinburgh Airport (EDI) or Glasgow Airport (GLA).
• Airport to City Centre: Upon arrival at Helsinki Airport, do not take an expensive taxi. Walk directly to the airport’s underground train terminal and board either the I or P train. Both lines run in a loop directly to Helsinki Central Station (Helsinki päärautatieasema).
• The journey takes approximately 30 minutes, and tickets can be bought easily at the platform digital kiosks (Zone ABC ticket required).

Where to Stay

Helsinki Central Station Area (Kluuvi / Kamppi):

• Ideal for fans staying a couple of days. It puts you in immediate proximity to the main transit lines and the heavy concentration of central pubs and sports bars.

Töölö District:

• If you want to base yourself right next to the stadium footprint, look for accommodation in the Töölö neighbourhood. It is a quieter, scenic residential area but directly adjacent to the match venue.

Afternoon: Pre-Match Meetups

Helsinki city centre features several major British/Irish style hubs and sports bars perfect for away support to gather, hang flags, and sink a few pints.

There are a group of Motherwell supporters who will be in the Narinkka Square on matchday, they will be walking to the Bolt Arena at 5:45pm.

Local Travel Tips for Fans

• Card is King: Finland is almost entirely cashless. You will not need Euros in cash; digital wallets (Apple Pay/Google Pay) and debit/credit cards are accepted everywhere, even for stadium pies.
• Pint Prices: Alcohol taxes are high in Finland. Expect to pay around €7.00 to €9.00 for a standard local pint (like Lapin Kulta or Karhu) in the city centre, though some spots like Old Irish Pub feature daytime drink deals.

The Bolt Arena is located just north of the city centre in Töölö

Catch Tram 2, 4, or 10 from the main Mannerheimintie street in the city centre. Alight at the Töölön kisahalli or Ooppera stops. From there, it is a short walk to the away turnstiles.

Stadium Entry

• Venue: Bolt Arena (Urheilukatu 5). Note that the pitch is an artificial turf surface.

Motherwell’s fan section is located at the north end of the Bolt Arena, in blocks 113, 114 and 115. Block 113 is an 18+ area, in which you are allowed to consume alcoholic beverages in the stands, you may need to present some proof of age if seated in this block so a passport or photo ID is a good thing to bring along to the match.

Blocks 114 and 115 are non-age-restricted blocks, meaning that the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not allowed in the stand, note that you are however allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages from the kiosks if 18 years or older. The wheelchair accessible area is found right above block 113. We ask all ticket holders to move into the seats they have purchased tickets for, to ensure everyone finds their own spot in the stands.

Gates to the Arena open at 18:00 local time, one hour before kick-off. And we encourage away supporters to arrive on time, to ensure everyone gets in before kick-off.

Motherwell fans have their own entrance located at the north end of the Stadium, by Urheilukatu, the street running along the west side of the arena. Find a picture attached, the red area marks the entrance and the yellow area is the approximate location of blocks 113, 114 and 115. You can not walk between different areas of the stadium from inside, and this is the only entrance to be used.

In UEFA matches, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body can issue and distribute a range of punishments against the football club, including fines, partial stadium bans, away ticket bans, etc.

The use of pyrotechnics, pitch incursions, throwing objects, use of laser pointers and any discriminatory behaviour can result in any individual receiving a club ban, football banning order as well as harsher punishments. We encourage all supporters to get behind the team on what is a huge European night for the football club in a safe and responsible manner.

August is set to be jam-packed with a trip to Helsinki, the start of new league campaigns and potential glamour ties. Below is a breakdown for the month ahead.

First-Team

August started with an impressive 2-1 win against Hibernian at Easter Road in the William Hill Premiership, as the Steelmen secured their first opening day win in the league since 2022.

But their focus soon turns to European action when they travel to take on HJK Helsinki in the third qualifying round first leg tie in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night.

The matches keep coming for the first-team, as they face Falkirk on Sunday 9 August, in their first home league match of the season; kick-off is 3pm. HJK then travel to North Lanarkshire for the second leg of the European action on Thursday 13 August. Kick off is 7:30pm for that one.

Motherwell play in their third competition of the month on Sunday 16 August against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview in the Premier Sports Cup. Kick off is at 2pm.

There are two more league matches on Saturday 22 August against Aberdeen at Fir Park at 3pm, before travelling to St Mirren on Saturday 29 August, also at 3pm.

Please note, if the Steelmen advance to the playoff round of the UEFA Conference League, they will take on Freiburg with legs taking place on Thursday 20/27 August. In this instance, the match against Aberdeen on Saturday 22 August would be postponed.

Under 19s

The Under 19s continue their CAS Elite League campaign this afternoon against Hibernian.

It’s the start of a new campaign on Tuesday 11 August against Kelty Hearts in the KDM Evolution Trophy. The young team are on the road for all six of their KDM League Phase fixtures as they aim to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time.

They will travel to Alloa Athletic two weeks later on Tuesday 25 August for their second outing in the same competition. Ticket and match information will be communicated in due course.

Women’s

Ian Robinson’s side are also kicking off new campaigns. The women of steel have played two Sky Sports Cup group-stage matches, beating Livingston 7-1 in their latest outing. They have Gartcairn next on Wednesday, 5 August at K-Park, 7:45pm kick-off, before rounding off the group-stage action against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday 9 August. Kick off is at 1pm for that one as they look to qualify for the next round of the competition.

Next up is a trip to Hibernian on Sunday 16 August for the start of their 2026/27 league campaign, which is a 2pm kick-off at Meadowbank Stadium. Seven days later they are home to Hearts on Sunday 23 August at K-Park with a 4pm kick-off.

The squad then head north to Montrose on Sunday 30 August to round off a busy month.

It was a tough ask for Motherwell to go to Easter Road on the opening day of the season and get a win, and throwing in European action two nights prior in the Faroe Islands made the ask even tougher.

But Alfred Johansson was confident in his side’s ability, and when Lukas Fadinger opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first-half, the travelling Motherwell fans believed.

Their belief was tainted when Martin Boyle levelled the game and the Hibees piled on the pressure for ten minutes, but the Steelmen stuck together and remained firmly in the contest.

And when the decisive moment arrived with just minutes remaining, the Motherwell fans went mental in the away end, and Ibrahim Said peeled away in celebration as the Nigerian secured Motherwell’s first win on the opening day for four years.

Motherwell’s Fortunes

Motherwell booked their spot in the third qualifying round of the Conference League with a handsome 5-0 win over HB Torshavn in the previous round, securing their first win away from home in Europe inside 90 minutes since 2010.

That comprehensive win was followed up by another impressive win on the opening day of the William Hill Premiership season against Hibernian on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Lukas Fadinger and Ibrahim Said secured the Steelmen’s first win on the opening day of the league season since 2022.

Opposition Report

HJK Helsinki are currently 17 league games into their season, and are fourth in the standings with a game in-hand over the teams above. They have scored the second highest amount of goals in the division and are still chasing down the top three.

Mads Borchers is their top scorer in the league with seven goals, but veteran Teemu Pukki is their joint top scorer in all competitions with ten this season.

Helsinki cruised passed Coleraine in the second qualifying round, winning 5-0 at home in the first leg, before winning 3-0 in Northern Ireland. They come into this game in a good run of form, winning their last four matches in all competitions, scoring 11 and conceding just one goal.

A late Ibrahim Said goal gave the Steelmen all three points to open the season away at Easter Road.

Motherwell kicked-off their 2026/27 William Hill Premiership campaign with a 1-2 win over Hibernian at Easter Road.

Alfred Johansson made just one change from the side that progressed to the third qualifying round of the Conference League on Thursday night, bringing Emmanuel Longelo in from the start in place of Mikey Booth. There was space on the bench for new signings Alex Lowry and Jamie Knight-Lebel, with last season’s Premiership golden boot winner Tawanda Maswanhise also on the bench.

Fresh off the back of both teams progressing in their European ties on Thursday night, Hibernian and Motherwell both looked to secure possession in the early stages. Thursday night goalscorer Martin Boyle looked to test the pace of Jake Girdwood-Reich inside a minute, as he sprung towards the byline before cutting the ball back into the penalty area, but Lukas Fadinger was on hand to clear the danger.

The first shot of the match came after eight minutes. Nathan Lowe latched onto slack Motherwell possession and dragged an effort wide of Alex Paulsen’s goal.

Felix Passlack was next to have an effort, as the ball fell to the full-back on the right-edge of the penalty box; he tried to catch a strike on the volley, but Regan Charles-Cook got out quickly enough to block the shot.

Hibernian then tried to pen the Steelmen into their own half, with Ibrahim Said going on some of his trademark runs forward, trying to get his team up the pitch. Willy Vogt scurried past Jordan Obita, but the Swiss youth international couldn’t find a Motherwell man in the area.

The game had very little drama as the first-half played out from there, with neither side creating any clear-cut chances in front of goal as both sets of supporters grew more frustrated with the lack of goalmouth action.

But then in the 37th minute, drama unfolded. Some great interchange between Tom Sparrow, Said, Fadinger and Oscar Priestman sent the latter charging into the box. Priestman jinked past Josh Mulligan and was brought down, leaving Steven McLean with no option but to point to the spot. Fadinger stepped up and, for the fourth consecutive match, found the back of the net as the Steelmen had the lead five minutes from the interval.

Motherwell had their tails up as they looked for a second before the break. Charles-Cook’s pressure nearly prevailed as he forced the Hibernian defender into a mistake and won a throw-in, which he took quickly, feeding captain Sparrow. His cutback was picked up by Said, who had a go but couldn’t beat the defender, but the ball fell to Charles-Cook on the edge, who tried to wrap his left foot round the ball but narrowly missed the target.

There were no changes during the half time break, as both managers opted to go with the same 11 for the second period.

With three minutes of the half, it really should have been two nil to the Steelmen. Charles-Cook once again chased down a lost cause, as Jason Kerr couldn’t clear his lines. The forward nipped in and gained possession 1v1 with the keeper; he opted to try and go round Raphael Sallinger, but the goalkeeper was able to block, with Fadinger shooting just wide with the follow-up from outside the box.

Fadinger stung the palms of Sallinger after 52 minutes after Charles-Cook broke up the park, but the goalkeeper was well behind the effort. Just seconds later, Lowe registered Hibs’ first shot on target. The big number nine caught the ball sweetly on the volley from a cross, but Paulsen got down low to his right hand side to force the ball out for a corner.

And then a further minute later, the referee pointed to the spot for the second time in the match. A loose pass from Dylan Williams was capitalised on by Boyle, who was then brought down by Priestman as the Australian tried to burst into the box. Boyle stepped up and slotted into the bottom right corner to level the game, with Paulsen going the right way but unable to prevent the shot. 55 minutes gone, 1-1.

Easter Road burst into life as the home crowd could sense their side having the momentum. Owen Elding cut inside from the right-hand side and smashed an effort with his left foot that Paulsen had to tip over the bar brilliantly. Elding then came close from the resulting corner again, as Paulsen couldn’t hang onto the ball from the cross; it fell to Elding, who beat the keeper but couldn’t beat Moormann, who was on the line to clear. The ball was then fired just over by Adam Mayor on his weaker right foot as the Steelmen clung on.

After 66 minutes, Johansson looked to his bench introducing Jamie Knight-Lebel for his debut, and Maswanhise as the Steelmen looked to gain control of the game. Vogt and Girdwood-Reich made way. Alex Lowry was next to make his debut after 75 minutes, with Charles-Cook coming off after a good showing in Leith.

Lowe went close again after 76 minutes as Hibernian tried a quick free-kick on the left flank, but the striker couldn’t convert the cross from Edling as Paulsen and Motherwell blew a sigh of relief.

82 minutes brought more nervous moments for the Steelmen. Paulsen looked as if he’d been fouled when came to try and gather a corner, but the ball was spilled and Lowe was on hand to try and score, but Moormann, once again, denied the goal on the goal-line.

The games defining moment came in the 85th minute and what a moment is was.

Substitute Olly Whyte won the back in the middle the park and fed in fellow sub and debutant Alex Lowry. He combined well with Ibrahim Said, with some excellent one-touch football, which allowed Dylan Williams to square to the onrushing Said and the Nigerian did the rest, dispatching past Sallinger and sending the away support into bedlam.

The Steelmen saw out the last remaining minutes excellently, to make it three wins in a row to start Alfred Johansson’s tenure.

Travel

It should be noted that there are temporary bus route diversions in place avoiding sections of Princes Street, this route to the stadium will add 20-30 minutes onto your journey.

Easter Road, London Road, Leith Street and the Leith Walk area are expected to be congested with the usual matchday traffic.

Please note, the biggest change this season at Easter Road is we’re recommending a different exit and egress route for away supporters visiting Easter Road stadium.

This change in approach will save visiting fans 2minutes on walking back to supporter buses and Edinburgh Waverley train station in the city centre, rather than walking the previous traditional route over the Crawford Bridge and up Easter Road, plus avoiding potential supporter flashpoints.

• Turn left on Albion Road when exiting the South stand
• Turn right onto Lochend Butterfly Way
• Turn left and walk round the back of Meadowbank Retail Park
• Turn right onto Moray Park Terrace
• Continue onto London Road
• Turn right onto London Road

Parking

There is no available parking spaces for car within stadium boundary. There is plenty of on street parking for cars in the vicinity of Leith area away from the stadium.

Easter Road is a cashless stadium. All kiosks at accept contactless/card payments only. No cash facility.

The Artisan Bar & Lounge (London Road) welcome away fans on matchdays the pub is a 10minutes walk from the away end.

The city centre is a 20 minute walk from the stadium and there are a number of bars and restaurants to choose from.

The second matchday of the 2026/27 domestic campaign is upon us, and the women of steel will travel to face Livingston this weekend, as they contest the second round of the Sky Sports Cup group stage at Almondvale on Sunday.

Defender Jamie Knight-Lebel has joined the club on loan from English Championship side Bristol City.

“I want to welcome Jamie to the club,” Alfred Johansson said.

“He is a talented young player who has two very strong seasons out on loan playing regularly. A physical and strong defender, he will provide competition in the defensive positions and bring international experience.

“Bristol City rate him highly, and this loan move will provide him with the opportunity to play in a style suited to his game. We look forward to introducing Jamie to the squad, and I’m excited to be working with him.”

The 21-year-old Canadian international joined the Bristol City Academy in 2019 and has since gone on to represent the first-team.

He made his debut for the Robins in 2023 when he came off the bench against Cardiff City in the Championship. He went on to play a further two games for Bristol City in the 2023/24 season. During his rise in the academy system, he was named captain of the under-21 side.

After signing a new three-year deal with Bristol City ahead of the 24/25 season, Knight-Lebel joined Crewe on loan, where he played 38 games, scoring three goals, with Crewe boasting an impressive goals-conceded record for the season.

But that season also brought more success on an international level, with the defender earning his first call-up to the Canadian squad in October 2024. Having been named in a provisional squad for the Copa America Qualifying playoffs earlier in the year, Jesse Marsch handed him his debut for his country in November against Suriname.

He earned his second and third caps in the summer of 2025, rounding off an excellent 12 months of development. Looking to continue playing, Knight-Lebel joined Ian Holloway’s Swindon Town for the 25/26 season. Here he made 35 appearances across the campaign.

“I’m looking forward to this season,” Jamie Knight-Lebel stated.

“The boys have already secured a spot in the next round of Europe, and they all seem to have gelled quickly as a group. It seems like such a tight-knit group at the club, and that is something I’m looking forward to being a part of.

“It’s not long until the league season starts and the excitement is high. I’m looking forward to experiencing my first game with this club.”
