What a few weeks it has been for Motherwell Football Club.

The number of supporters attending matches at Fir Park, on the road domestically and in Europe has been exceptional. Indeed, for the last 12 months crowd numbers have been significantly up, and we can’t thank you enough for all of your support. The players and staff will never, ever take for granted the effort it takes for you to follow the team.

With over 1,400 Motherwell fans preparing to jet off to Germany later this week, the excitement is high for what will be an excellent trip for everyone to make memories on the continent with their friends and family.

However, as we stated last week, the club received fines of almost €20,000 for fan-related issues that had been flagged by UEFA.

We were fined €4,000 due to the blocking of passageways in the John Hunter Stand at Fir Park against Havnar Boltfelag.

In Helsinki against HJK, we were fined €15,000 for a group of Motherwell supporters who leapt over the barrier and LED advertising before entering the field of play.

The last time we played in European competition, we also received two fines for fan-related incidents.

Since communicating these recent fines, the club has received the cost of the repair work that HJK require for their LED advertisement boards. It is estimated that this will cost the club over €74,000.

Between this and the UEFA fines, we have already incurred fines / costs of close to €100,000 this season.

We are not targeting a specific group of supporters or anyone in particular for these matters, but if you know you jumped over the barrier, or even worse, entered the field of play, you know who you are. And we’re asking you to please restrain yourself should another celebratory moment arise. This moment created a lot of uncertainty, and the safety of the fans was compromised, as anyone could have been injured.

Last week during our home match at Fir Park against SC Freiburg, despite our calls for everyone to remain in the stands, UEFA flagged supporters jumping over the wall from the John Hunter Stand. Even one supporter entering the field of play is regarded by UEFA as a pitch incursion, and this is subject to an ongoing disciplinary decision. A second offence results in a minimum penalty of a further €24,000.

We fully appreciate how big these moments are, and we can all get a bit carried away. But such behaviour is taking things too far, and it’s causing a financial strain on the football club, as well as the further risk of harsher punishments growing.

The club has previously received fines, costs of damage to away stadiums and suspended ticket sanctions for other fan-related issues domestically. These have totalled almost £15,000 in recent seasons. We therefore need everyone to continue supporting the team, but in a responsible and safe manner. Please don’t be the person who causes stadium damage or brings further sanctions/fines on the club. We want more people to be in the stands, not less.

So, with this in mind, the football club would like to wish everyone a safe trip to Freiburg. We cannot wait to see a sea of claret and amber in the away end on Thursday night and throughout the day.

We can confirm we have submitted an appeal against the decision taken by a disciplinary tribunal of the Scottish FA to impose a £5,000 fine upon Motherwell FC.

This appeal is against the sanction imposed regarding a social media post the club made following our match against Celtic.

As this case remains open, we will not comment any further on the matter.

Some seating within the Phil O’Donnell Stand is being upgraded ahead of the season. Season ticket holders have been notified in recent weeks about the upgrades being made.

As we prepare for our first European campaign in four years, there are some added changes and upgrades that we need to make in order to meet UEFA criteria.

Within the UEFA Conference League matches, all seats require a minimum of a 30 cm back, which many of the seats in the Phil O’Donnell Stand don’t currently have. As a club, we have been looking at the best way to rectify this issue and find a solution that works for all parties to ensure our supporters can use their seats.

The easiest solution is to purchase new plastic seats with the correct dimensions.

The new seats are the same width dimensions but with the required UEFA back height, which means we won’t have to reduce the number of seats and, therefore, no season ticket holder will need to be relocated. This part has been particularly important to us, as we understand and appreciate that some season ticket holders have been in their seat for a number of years and hold a personal attachment to where they sit.

Whilst the immediate priority is to upgrade the wooden seating in the Phil O’Donnell Stand, the club has purchased enough new seating to upgrade the bucket seats in the stand also. These will be upgraded in due course also.

Furthermore, should you wish to purchase a seat for memorabilia, you will be able to do so at the cost of £10 or £15 with all money going to the Motherwell FC Girls & Boys Academies. The seats are removed in sections of two and four, so we cannot guarantee your own seat, but you will get a section of two or four seats. Seats can be purchased online or by phoning the office on 01698 333 333. All seats require collection, and you will be notified when your seat is available.

Motherwell FC and the Well Society have signed a maiden Working Together Agreement.

The document sets out how both the club and the Well Society can work for the benefit of both organisations.

The agreement sets out a clear, shared framework for how both organisations will work in partnership, united by shared values, defined roles and a collective ambition to succeed.

Signed at Fir Park on Saturday 4 April as part of Well Society Week, the agreement represents a significant step forward in strengthening governance, collaboration and delivery across the club and its majority shareholder.

The document formally defines the roles and responsibilities of both the Motherwell FC Board and The Well Society Board, establishes a structured route to a medium-term strategic plan and introduces a clear framework for delivery and accountability.

The signing formed part of Well Society Week – a celebration of fan ownership at Fir Park – including the launch of the Society’s ‘Own it. Grow it’ – aimed at increasing membership and strengthening supporter investment.

MFC140 Walkway

As we enter our 140th year, we’re offering you the chance to become part of our home, permanently, no matter if you’re near or far.

Our MFC140 Walkway is a space that will be designed for our supporters, and you will be able to purchase a special plaque with a personalised messages to celebrate births, marriages, anniversaries or pay tribute to loved ones.

The MFC 140 Walkway will be situated at the entrance to the Phil O’Donnell stand for all to see. 140 Motherwell supporters will be able to write their name into history.

Anniversary Matchday

With our post-split fixtures now confirmed, we will be marking our 140th birthday on our final home match of the season on Wednesday 13 May.

As the Steelmen get set to face Celtic at Fir Park in their final match in ML1 this season, it will be 130 years since our first match at Fir Park, which came against the same opponents back in 1895.

The night will involve special activity to mark our anniversary. More details on this will be provided closer to the time.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Motherwell FC player Billy Campbell.

Billy joined the club in 1968, arriving from Dundee. The winger went on to make 110 appearances for the Steelmen in his six-year stay at Fir Park.

Scoring 13 times, the Northern Irish internationalist returned to Motherwell later, where he was assistant manager to Willie McLean. He also featured for Hamilton Accies, Sunderland and Linfield.

Billy has passed away aged 81, and the thoughts of everyone at Motherwell Football Club are firmly with his family and friends at this sad time.
