In Numbers: Ending the season against Livi

Motherwell end the 2018/19 season with an early home kick off against Livingston on Saturday.

Here’s the game previewed in numbers.

    51

The maximum points return on offer for Motherwell in the 2018/19 Ladbrokes Premiership season is 51, with a victory against Livingston taking them to that amount.

Doing so – or at least picking up a draw – will surpass the points tally of 48 accumulated in the 2017/18 season.

Stephen Robinson’s side also currently sit with 43 goals scored, the same amount put in the back of the net last campaign, so there is another tally on offer to surpass.

    267

The number of days Livingston fans have had to wait since their last victory in the Ladbrokes Premiership away from home.

Their only win on their league travels this campaign came in their second away match against St Mirren on 25 August, when Jack Hamilton and Alan Lithgow struck in a 2-0 win.

Twelve of the team’s 44 league points have been picked up on the road, underlining their strong home record.

    3,819

The number of free tickets given away to local children – at the time of writing – for our South Stand for the match.

We’re hoping to get the full stand sold out for the game. If you’ve not got your free ticket, act now. Just send us an email to freetickets@motherwellfc.co.uk and we will get you yours.

    Setting the scene on Livingston

    Setting the scene on Livingston

Motherwell host Livingston in the final Ladbrokes Premiership match of the 2018/19 season on Saturday.

Here’s an early look ahead to the match. Kick off is at 12.30pm.

    What’s at stake

Both teams are locked in their finishing positions going into the game.

Motherwell will be in eighth, having lost the chance to take seventh with defeat at St Johnstone last weekend.

Livingston can get to within a point of their opponents with victory, but are guaranteed ninth spot.

    Tale of the tape

The two teams have already met four times in 2018/19 – three times in the league and once in the Betfred Cup.

Danny Johnson’s goal was the difference in the first encounter in the cup early in the season, before a 1-1 draw at Fir Park in the first league game.

Livi then ran out 2-0 winners at home in the Premiership, before a 3-0 convincing win for Stephen Robinson’s side at home in February.

    Free kids tickets

We’re giving away free kids tickets for the match. We want to get Fir Park bouncing as we send off the team for the summer.

We’ve already contacted every school in Lanarkshire and various local groups to give out home tickets for our South Stand, with our stadium already starting to fill up.

But if you’ve not had the chance or you’ve missed out through schools and group, you can get yours by emailing freetickets@motherwellfc.co.uk.

Just tell us how many you would like for the match and we will get them sent to you.

Adult entry prices are set at £20 for the South Stand. Concession prices are set at £17.

Tickets are available online now or from the Fir Park ticket office. Entry to other areas of the stadium will cost:

    Adult £24 / £20
    Over 60s / 16-18 year olds / students £17 / £16
    15 and under £3

A family ticket for one adult and two children aged 15 and under is available for £28, or £24 in the John Hunter Stand.

The cheaper price on all tickets is for our John Hunter Stand for home supporters.

Fans who require ambulant or wheelchair access should contact Andy Sim on 07428 225254 or email tickets@mfcdsa.com.

David Turnbull wins Football Writers’ award

David Turnbull has won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award.

The midfielder has been rewarded for an outstanding breakthrough season in claret and amber, in which he has netted 13 league goals.

Turnbull beat off competition from Jake Hastie, Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor and Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson to win the award.

He becomes only the second Motherwell player in history to win the award, following in the footsteps of James McFadden, who won in season 2001/02.

He will be formally presented with the award at a Scottish Football Writers’ Association event on Sunday, 19 May.

    Motherwell lose at St Johnstone

Motherwell conceded seventh spot to St Johnstone in the Ladbrokes Premiership, as they lost 2-0 to the Saints in Perth.

Goals from Scott Tanser and Murray Davidson sealed the hosts’ league finish, and means the Steelmen will finish eighth.

Stephen Robinson named an unchanged team and the visitors started brightly, controlling possession and carving out half chances to try and get ahead.

On the half hour mark, the clearest chance of all should have fallen to Motherwell. Tanser handled the ball on the line to block Ariyibi’s goalbound effort, but the referee didn’t give it.

It would be Tanser who would then put his team ahead. Charles Dunne got on the wrong side of Chris Kane on the right side of the box and bundled the striker over.

Tanser then picked his spot to make it 1-0, putting the ball into the far right bottom corner just outside of the reach of Mark Gillespie.

Motherwell went in at the break arguably the better side but that changed in the second half, as the Saints doubled their advantage early on.

A swift counter attack left Grimshaw with a miracle to perform to somehow stop a cross into the box, having to contend with two St Johnstone players bearing down on goal.

The defender did his best, but Davidson used all his experience to steer home the second.

Motherwell changed their shape and brought on attacking reinforcements to try and salvage something, but they ultimately failed to carve out the chances required.
