Fact One

Jordan McGhee will be more than familiar with the local area, having lived here most of his life.

Fact Two

McGhee can cover a number of positions on the pitch and has often been used as a utility player. He can play right-back, centre-defender and centre-midfielder and has even featured on the left side of the defence and as a centre attacking midfielder. It was when he played as a centre-attacking midfielder that McGhee scored a brace.

Fact Three

Over the course of his 350+ first-team matches, McGhee has only scored one goal against Motherwell. That came in the 3-2 Motherwell win at Dens Park in April 2024, when Moses Ebiye scored a last-gasp winner.

Fact Four

Back in 2013, McGhee was a part of the Scotland Under 21 that took on the Netherlands. In his debut match at Under 21 level, and just 17 years old, he suffered a 4-0 defeat on the day; however, the opposition was filled with players who went on to have wonderful careers at the very top.

Former Ajax and Sevilla winger Quincy Promes started on the wing, and former PSV and Chelsea star Marco Van Ginkel played in the middle of the pitch with former Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos leading the line. Also starring was former Manchester United, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid man Memphis Depay.

It wasn’t just the starting 11 who had big names. On the bench was current Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, who was an unused substitute.

Lennon Miller

After his maiden call-up in March, Lennon Miller is named in Steve Clarke’s squad for the June international matches. Motherwell academy graduate Max Johnston has also been included in the squad.

Scotland have two friendly matches lined up June, with Miller primed to make his first appearance for the senior international side. Clarke’s side take on Iceland at Hampden on Friday 6 June, before travelling to Liechtenstein on Monday 9 June.

Tawanda Maswanhise

Tawanda Maswanhise will make his way to Morocco later this month for Zimbabwe’s two fixtures. The Warriors have two friendly matches lined up in June in Morocco which will be used as preparation for their World Cup qualifying matches in September.

They take on Burkino Faso Friday 6 June and Niger on Tuesday 10 June.

We will take on Carlisle in a behind-closed-door friendly match prior to our first Premier Sports Cup match. 

The match against Carlisle will take place on Tuesday 8 July at Fir Park.

No spectators will be able to attend.

Defender Jordan McGhee is our latest summer recruit.

The former Dundee defender joins the club on a two-year deal, with the club holding the option of a further year.

McGhee joined the youth setup at Hearts in 2011 and worked his way through the ranks at the club. In 2013, he made his first-team debut against St Mirren at Tynecastle.

It didn’t take him long to get off the mark at first-team level, as McGhee scored in just his second appearance against Aberdeen in August 2013.

Interest in the defender was high, with McGhee receiving offers to move to England; however, he penned a new deal with the Jambos.

He moved on loan to Middlesborough in July 2016. After making 74 appearances for Hearts, he moved to Falkirk in the Championship in the summer of 2017. Over the next two seasons, he would accumulate over 70 appearances for the Bairns and would be named club captain.

Following Falkirk’s relegation in 2019, McGhee made the switch to Dundee. In his first season, he was voted Players’ Player of the Year, and at the end of the campaign, he would be named Club Captain for the second time in his career.

He scored three goals in Dundee’s Premiership playoff matches that played a huge part in the Dee’s return to the top flight. Over the course of the next four seasons, McGhee would be used as a utility player across the pitch. Despite Dundee being relegated again, he remained with the club and helped them back to the Premiership.

In his final season, he scored a brace against rivals Dundee United at Tannadice to help secure Dundee’s first win at Tannadice in over 20 years. In six seasons, he reached just shy of 200 appearances for Dundee, and now he joins the club for the 2025/26 season.

Motherwell will face Hertha Berlin in a friendly at Fir Park on Friday 25 July. 

Kick off is 7pm.

The 2. Bundesliga side will travel to Scotland in preparation for their upcoming campaign in Germany. The two-time German Champions currently play in the second tier of Germany following their relegation from the Bundesliga in 2023.

Finishing in 11th place last season, their squad is littered with talent and we look forward to welcoming them to Fir Park. Ticket details for the match will be made available in due course.

We will kick off our 2025/26 Premier Sports Cup campaign with a Lanarkshire Derby against Clyde on Saturday 12 July, making the short journey to New Douglas Park.

Our first home game will take place on Tuesday 15 July against Peterhead at 7.45pm.

We then travel to Ochilview Park on Saturday 19 July to face Stenhousemuir.

Our group-stage campaign ends on Tuesday 22 July against Greenock Morton at Fir Park. Our group-stage finale will also be broadcast live on Premier Sports.

Lukas Fadinger has joined the club and here are three quick facts about our new signing. 

Fact One

Fadinger is the 12th youngest player to ever play for current Austrian champions Sturm Graz. He made his debut for Graz in May 2018 at the age of 17 years, 7 months, and 23 days.

Fact Two

Two of his three goals in the 2023/24 season came against former Motherwell manager Michael Wimmer and his Austria Vienna side.

Fact Three

There is already a Motherwell link prior to Fadinger’s arrival in ML1. Both Max Johnston and Mika Biereth have played against Fadinger when Sturm Graz faced off against Altach. Johnston has come on as a substitute on two occasions against Fadinger, with Biereth starting in two and scoring in both matches.

The new season isn’t far away, and here are all the important dates for your diary.

First up is the draw for the Premier Sports Cup group stage. This will take place on Wednesday 28 May at 1pm and is available to watch on Premier Sports 1, the Premier Sports YouTube channel, and the Premier Sports X/Twitter page, as well as the SPFL YouTube channel.

We are seeded in the draw and will discover fixture information shortly after the draw has taken place. The draw is not regionalised.

Our first-team will return to Fir Park for pre-season on Wednesday 18 June, before setting off for Delden, Netherlands, on Wednesday 25 June.

During their stay in the Netherlands, they will face Eredivisie side FC Twente on Tuesday 1 July.

In their second match of the trip, Motherwell will take on a second opponent on Saturday 28 June.

Fixtures will be announced on Friday 20 June for the new Premiership season at 9am.

The Premier Sports Cup group stage will kick off on the weekend of July 12/13, with all group stage matches to be completed by July 26/27.

Premiership match day one is on the 2nd/3rd of August, with the final round of fixtures taking place on 16th/17th May 2026.

There will be no winter break once again this season.

Our Early Bird discount will end on Friday 20 June.

Season ticket holders have until the 1st of July to secure their seat.

The fixtures for the 2025/26 SWPL season will be published on Wednesday 25 June at 9am, with the first round of games taking place on Sunday 17 August. This season, for the first time, both SWPL and SWPL2 will have ten teams.

There will be a winter break in the SWPL, starting on Monday 22 December and ending on Saturday 17 January.

The final game before the split will be on Sunday 22 February.

Clubs in SWPL 2 and the bottom four of the SWPL will conclude their fixtures on Sunday 17 May before the new SWPL play-off competition will commence. The SWPL play-off quarter-final will be played on Wednesday 20th, and the semi-final on Sunday 24 May.

Clubs in the top six of the SWPL will conclude their fixtures on Sunday 24 May. The SWPL and SWPL 2 play-off final matches are scheduled for Friday 29 and Saturday 30.

The first round of the Sky Sports Cup will take place on Sunday 1 September, with Motherwell entering in the second round on Sunday 5 October.

Lukas Fadinger has joined the club on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old midfielder joins after a two-year stint with Austrian Bundesliga side Rheindorf Altach, where he made 61 appearances and scored four goals.

Fadinger came through the ranks at Sturm Graz, where he made his first-team debut at just 17.

A prominent feature in the Graz II team, Fadinger was loaned out to SV Lafnitz in the second tier of Austrian football in 2019, where he made 66 appearances across three seasons.

He moved to Hartberg in 2022, where he made 30 appearances in the Austrian top-flight in his sole season with the club.

“I am so happy to be at this club,” Lukas Fadinger said.

“We’ve been holding talks for a couple of months now, and to now finally say I’m a Motherwell player makes me very happy.

“This move excites me, and it’s a big step forward in my career. I’m already looking forward to the start of the new season and meeting all the fans.”
