Motherwell’s former players club, in conjunction with the Well Society, are holding another Nostalgia Night.

Held in the Cooper Suite at Fir Park on Friday, 5 October, the event will get under way at at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

This will be a re-run of the very successful night which took place in April earlier this year.

Providing an opportunity for another 100 supporters to attend the event, the night will include recordings from matches ranging from 1950 to 2000, as well as a short quiz. A number of former players will be in attendance.

Tickets are priced at £10 and include a programme and a pie at half-time. You can get yours from the Chapman office at Fir Park, or by calling 01698 338006.

All funds raised from the evening will be donated to the Well Society and benefit under the Double Your Money offer from former owner Les Hutchison.

We’re giving away free tickets to the owners of our club.

To thank all of Well Society members for their fantastic support, each member can get a complimentary ticket to the match against Livingston on Saturday, 6 October.

Society members who are season ticket holders or already have a ticket for the match can bring along a friend for free.

Want to get your hands on a unique piece of Motherwell FC memorabilia?

The Well Society are selling a number of dressing room boards the players would see when they came in for match in the 2017/18 season, which have all been signed by the relevant player.

The boards available include those used in the home changing room at Fir Park, and also a selection of bespoke ones from our William Hill Scottish Cup final.

Bidding on boards starts at between £45 and £50 per board. Remember, all money raised will be doubled through the Well Society scheme, meaning additional funds to benefit the club.

Assistant manager Keith Lasley is the special guest as the Well Society get set to host their second business breakfast at Fir Park.

Following the success of the first event in April, a second morning meet has been arranged for businesses and is set to take place on 19 July.

Fir Park favourite Lasley will be guest speaker in the Millennium Suite, sharing stories from his career in claret and amber.

The events runs from 7.45am until 9am and costs just £10 per person. Your ticket price includes a breakfast roll, tea, coffee and orange juice.

Prior to both of last season’s cup finals, the ‘Well support produced two amazing card displays which not only looked the part, but also raised over £9000 for the Well Society.

Organised by the Well Bois, with support from the Well Society, the fundraising effort was initially to cover the costs of the display. Following on from this, any additional funds generated were to be donated to the Well Society, with money raised further boosted with the “Double Your Money” initiative still in play.

Our support responded in their droves and by digging deep, they exceeded all expectations and ensured that the Well Bois were able to turn our end of Hampden Park claret and amber, giving our players a sight to behold as they walked out of the tunnel to a rapturous welcome.

“We would like to thank the Well Bois and the Motherwell support for this incredible effort,” Well Society board member Maureen Kirkwood said.

“Each and every person involved should be exceptionally proud of how it looked and, of course, the funds raised too.

“Time and time again our fans knock it out of the park, and we at the Well Society will never take that for granted.”

Derek Watson, one of the many fans who helped coordinate the displays, added: “We wanted to make sure our fans were represented at the final and we were delighted about how it all turned out.

“We greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts in making this happen, in particular a big thanks to John McAlpine and Andy Lewis who helped design the displays.

“It’s always been our aim to bring colour and atmosphere to Motherwell matches, both home and away, and we are extremely grateful to the Motherwell support for their continuous support.”

The Well Society have made a generous £5,000 donation to the Motherwell Football Club academy. 

The funds, which will go towards supporting a number of areas of the academy, have been gathered as a result of numerous pledges from the society’s members.

Academy director Steven Hammell believes it will go a long way. “It will help us everywhere, we’re just trying to improve every area we can,” he said.

“We’re improving sports science, video analysis, day-to-day equipment and facilities too. We’re just trying to create better players, but also better young people as well.”

Joint chair of the Well Society, Douglas Dickie, says that this donation is an example of the good that can come from fan support, and is urging for more of the same.

“We do support the club, we integrate with the club and are supporting it financially and just giving it any support we can,” he said.

“We now see where this money is going and it’s not going in to a black hole. As owners of the club, this money is going directly in to the club in order to secure the future.”

The Well Society held their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday night (26th June).

Joint chairman Douglas Dickie reported an increase in membership and income accrued over the past year, related to the success on the park last season when ’Well finished runners-up in both national cup competitions and were seventh in the league.

Douglas reported that the membership now stands at just over 2,600 which results in an income into the Society of around £15,000 per month. The Society raised just under £200,000 in total over the last year, which included income from a share sale, auction, events and donations.

This was a fantastic achievement by the membership and in that respect Douglas thanked them for their tremendous support. He outlined that this income is vital to the success of the club throughout including supporting the academy and the club’s Community Trust.

Douglas complimented both the fantastic success and the work that the academy and the Trust carry out and pointed out that they reach out to over 30,000 people within the community. He appealed to all fans and local businesses to help the Society grow to support the community, underpinning the club’s financial stability and maximising the ‘Double Your Money’ offer given by previous owner Les Hutchison.

This pledge, whereby Mr Hutchison matches any individual investment made out of his own pocket, ends at the end of December and has a maximum ceiling of £500,000. To take full advantage of this, the Society needs to target income of £300,000 this year.

The Society has also formed a Business Club and has had one successful meeting where over 20 businesses were in attendance and demand means they have another meeting on July 19. Douglas also took time out to put on record the Society’s thanks for Mr Hutchison’s continued support since the transfer of ownership.

He said: “We have all seen the benefits of the hard work done throughout the club as a whole including the Society, the community, the academy both on and off the park last season and it is proof of what can be achieved when we all pull together.”

The meeting closed with a round of questions from the floor and a thank you from Douglas to those attending and to the current board of the Society for their hard work and support throughout the year.

The Well Society are hosting their first business breakfast, offering networking opportunities for local companies.

Former Motherwell player Bobby Watson is the guest speaker at the event, which is taking place on Thursday, April 19 in Millennium Suite at Fir Park.

Motherwell’s January recruits have all joined the rest of their teammates in signing up for the Well Society.

Earlier in the campaign, the entire first team squad at Fir Park became members, joining thousands of fans in making monthly pledges to show their commitment to the club.

Curtis Main, Nadir Çiftçi, Tom Aldred and Stephen Hendrie have now also shown their support by signing up.

“Since our arrival, everyone at the club and in the community has really welcomed us in,” said striker Main.

“We are delighted to join the Well Society. We want to show our appreciation and play our part on and off the field.”

Well Society members Heather McDonald and Brian Closs to meet the new players and welcome them into the Well Society.

“It was a great honour to meet the new guys as they joined the Well Society,” Brian said afterwards.

“There is a real feeling of togetherness around the club at the moment under fan ownership and hopefully that can push us on to finish the season strongly.”

With now close to 2,400 members, the Well Society is continuing to grow.
