    Justin Amaluzor signs

Justin Amaluzor is our second summer signing.

The forward, who was last with Maidstone United in the National League, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Amaluzor is already familiar with Fir Park, having spent time training with the squad in the latter stages of the 2020/21 campaign.

“Justin came in to train with us last season and immediately impressed us all with his enthusiasm and attacking ability,” manager Graham Alexander said of his new recruit.

“He’s hungry to succeed and we’re delighted to bring him in.

“We’re sure he’ll take this opportunity and be a valuable asset to our team.”

The 24-year-old netted seven goals in 23 league matches in 2019/20, as well as finding the net twice in 10 starts in the abandoned 2020/21 season.

Prior to his spell with Maidstone United, he featured for Braintree Town, Bognor Regis Town and Barnet.

Free e-clinic offers workplace mental health insight

Free e-clinic offers workplace mental health insight

Expert tips on mental health awareness in the workplace are on offer during our main partner Paycare’s next free e-clinic.

Kerry B Mitchell, their wellbeing manager and mental health first aid trainer, will lead the online session from 10am to 11am on Wednesday 14 July.

She will be joined by long-standing HR professional Paul Owen and Zen Communications Managing Director Felicity Wingrove, to discuss how mental health awareness can enhance morale and wellbeing in the workplace, and how managers can put wellbeing at the heart of the working environment.

Attendees will also find out about recognising warning signs, approaching meaningful conversations around mental health, how to access further resources, and fostering conditions for good physical and mental health.

To book your free place on the Workplace Mental Health e-clinic, simply click here. For more information about the range of MHFA-Accredited Mental Health Training offered by Kerry and the Paycare Wellbeing team, visit paycare.org/wellbeing.

“It’s vital that team leaders and managers have an insight into wellbeing so they can recognise the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health, support their teams and signpost to relevant sources of assistance,” said Kerry.

“Life has been incredibly tough for all of us over the past 18 months. With stress, anxiety and burnout all on the rise, it’s more important than ever for organisations to be supportive of their employees’ needs. Plus, with happier and healthier employees, organisations enjoy higher levels of productivity, less presenteeism, and increased loyalty.”

Felicity added: “At Zen, having a good understanding of mental health enables us to fully support the team to flourish within their professional and personal lives.

“Creating a workplace culture where mental health can be discussed openly has been vital to our success as individuals and as an agency.

“Employee wellbeing is so much more than just a tick-box or a recruitment headline, there is a significant commercial benefit too: less sickness absence, better productivity and longer retention of staff being among the advantages of looking after staff health and happiness.

“We’ve been shortlisted for multiple employee wellbeing awards, partly because of the training we’ve undertaken with Kerry and Paycare – but more importantly, we’ve been able to be there for each other through the pandemic and recognise when individuals might need a little more support – and what that support might look like.”

Allan Campbell signs for Luton Town

Allan Campbell signs for Luton Town

Allan Campbell has signed for Luton Town.

The Motherwell youth academy graduate, who made 160 appearances in claret and amber, moves under freedom of contract to the English Championship side.

We have reached a financial arrangement with Luton based on our training compensation entitlement. We have also negotiated the addition of future economic rights.

“We wish Allan all the very best after earning a good move to an excellent club in the English Championship,” chief executive Alan Burrows said.

“Luton Town have been a pleasure to deal with. Throughout this process, they have been extremely professional.

“We have reached a compromise that is both fair in the short-term but also allows Motherwell the potential to share in future success, should Allan’s career continue in the same upward trajectory.

“We would like to thank Allan for all his hard work, effort and endeavour as one of the shining lights and success stories of the Motherwell FC academy in recent times.

“We look forward to watching his career go from strength to strength in English football.”

Nick Daws appointed head of recruitment operations

Nick Daws appointed head of recruitment operations

Nick Daws is our new head of recruitment operations.

The 51-year-old Englishman has already been hard at work on summer business, as we look to add to the squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

“I’m delighted to be on board at Motherwell,” said Daws. “I’ve spent the last five weeks working hard in the role, getting things in place both for this summer and beyond.

“We are going to adopt a modern approach to recruitment. That involves exploring everything that is possibly available to us to take us forward, be it data analytics or the more traditional scouting methods.

“What we need to have options in every available market. You don’t have to have the biggest budget, but you can be smart with it, while ensuring you’re in the market for the best players possible for our club.

“We will make the right decisions, not rushed decisions, and ensure we get the best players we can.

“Beyond this summer, it is key for Motherwell that there is a recruitment structure put in place that leaves a legacy and way of working well beyond my time at the club.

“That will also be a major part of my role, ensuring the right tools and people are in place for continuity and a way of working for the long-term.”

Daws has worked with manager Graham Alexander before, serving as his assistant at Scunthorpe United.

A former professional player, predominantly with Bury where he made 425 appearances, Daws has also worked on the coaching staffs of Rotherham United, Barnsley and Queens Park Rangers.

His last role was with AFC Wimbledon, where he combined the role of head of recruitment with a position as assistant manager.

“I’m delighted to welcome Nick aboard to spearhead our recruitment department,” Motherwell boss Alexander said of the appointment.

“He’s someone I’ve known for the last five years and I respect highly for his vast experience, intelligence and professionalism.

“He’ll embrace and introduce new ideas to how we work, using all the tools the modern game provides.

“It’s important we build a platform that will benefit the club for many years and I know how ambitious Nick is to create that.

“He’ll work closely with everyone and I’m sure he’ll be another positive addition to the excellent team of staff we already have.”

    Devante Cole signs for Barnsley

    Devante Cole signs for Barnsley

Devante Cole has signed for Barnsley.

The forward, who was offered new terms to extend his stay at Fir Park, has instead taken up the offer to join the English Championship side.

Cole’s second spell with Motherwell saw him finish as top scorer in the 2020/21 season, netting 12 goals in 31 appearances.

His first stint – a loan spell from Wigan Athletic in early 2019/20 – brought a further four goals from 21 matches.

Cole now heads to Barnsley who were in Premier League promotion contention last campaign. A fifth-place finish put them in the play-offs, where they lost to Swansea City in the semi-finals.

We thank Devante for all his contributions at Motherwell and wish him the very best for the future.

Playing through a pandemic: The players’ story

In March 2020, life ground to a halt as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the country.

For Motherwell FC, it meant a successful season was curtailed early. A third-place finish and European football were secured, but there would be no celebrations with supporters to mark the occasion.

As uncertainty persisted, life returned to some form in the summer as the team got back together.

What followed in 2020/21 is a story of carrying on with no fans, unique and difficult challenges, battles with mental health and a year that will leave a lasting impact on all.

This is the story of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the words of our players.

    Scott Fox agrees new contract

    Scott Fox agrees new contract

Scott Fox has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The goalkeeper, who joined last summer, will now be with us until the end of the 2021/22 season.

“We’re glad to have Scott with us again for the new season,” manager Graham Alexander said.

“He’s shown great strength to get back from injury and has impressed on and off the pitch.

“It was great to see him get games in before the end of the season and we’re looking forward to having him with the group again.”

Fox was on the bench three times at the start of the 2020/21 campaign before suffering a knee injury, which was expected to rule him out for the full season.

However he made his return in mid-May, taking up a place amongst the substitutes for the final two matches of the season before going on loan to Morton for their vital relegation play-off match with Airdrieonians.

Fox played both matches and kept two clean sheets, ensuring the ‘Ton remained in the Scottish Championship.
