We’re asking both sets of supporters to bring along items for our food bank collection at our match with Celtic on Wednesday 9 November.

We’re collecting items on the day of the game for the Maranatha Motherwell Food Bank.

We are asking fans to bring what they can to support this important cause, so that those in need can receive a food parcel to help.

“Unfortunately, food banks are now having to play a vital role in helping the most vulnerable in our community,” CEO Alan Burrows said.

“Given soaring inflation levels, rising interest rates and the energy crisis, more and more people are tragically having to rely on the thoughtfulness and generosity of others to help feed their family.

“Over the last few years, Motherwell fans have really stepped up to the mark and helped stock up food banks all over Lanarkshire. This year, as we approach the cold winter months, we are asking those who can to once again help.”

Items needed are:

• Custard/ Rice Pudding

• Tinned Fruit

• Tinned Meat

• Meals in a tin

• Tuna

• Pasta n Sauce

• Noodles

• Long Life Milk

• Breakfast Cereal

Motherwell fans can drop off at the Cooper Stand car park. Celtic fans’ drop points are on your approach to the Tommy McLean Stand. Collections are available from 6pm.

Matt Penney

Our September player of the month, is up once again for nomination after another impressive month.

The Ipswich loanee has continued his fine run of form in October, playing a part in helping his side keep two clean sheets on the road. He also set Kevin van Veen up for his third goal against Ross County, while also playing Joe Efford in for his goal against the Highland side.

Penney has played every minute of every game in a hectic schedule.

Blair Spittal

Despite coming off in the first half against Hibernian and missing the subsequent match through injury, Blair Spittal is once again up for player of the month.

Spittal played the ball back into the danger area, which led to our goal against Celtic at the start of the month.

He also got an assist against Dundee United, setting up Sondre Solholm with an inch perfect cross into the box for the defender to power into the net.

Stuart McKinstry

The on-loan winger notched up two goals in four starts this month, including his first ever goal in claret in amber.

The boyhood Motherwell fan has worked his way into the starting eleven this month, scoring his first goal for the club with a perfectly placed free kick against Rangers.

He made is two goals in two league games when he controlled and drilled the ball into the net against Aberdeen.

Sondre Solholm

After building up a formidable partnership with Ricki Lamie at the heart of the defence, Sondre Solholm get his first player of the month nomination this season.

With 70% of his ariel duals throughout the month, he has proven to be tough to get past for attackers.

Keeping two clean sheets in the month, the Norwegian got his first Motherwell goal with a powerful header against Dundee United in his last outing.

Motherwell are in midweek action against Partick Thistle on Wednesday 2 November in SWPL. 

Kick off is 8pm at Petershill Park.

Story of the match

This is the first encounter between the two teams this season.

Last season, all matches were closely fought. With the last three matches between the teams ending in draws.

Thistle drew with Hibernian in their last match, with Motherwell narrowly defeated 1-0 by Hearts.

The Steelmen are back east to take on Hearts at Tynecastle in the first match in November.

Kick off is 3pm, Sunday 6 November.

The Story of the Match

Both sides halted losing streaks with away wins at the weekend.

The Steelmen overcame Dundee United at Tannadice and Hearts defeated Ross County in Dingwall with Hearts’ previous league win being against Motherwell in September.

The Jambos travel to Turkey this week to take on Istanbul Basaksehir on Thursday. ‘Well might be hoping for a European hangover as they go looking for their first win at Tynecastle September 2019.

• Film and edit creative content for the club’s official media and social channels.
• Enhance and create engaging content such as player branding, behind-the-scenes videos and match day footage.
• To contribute innovative ideas to grow the club’s digital media platforms.
• Attend club events and support with coverage on our official media channels.
• To ensure all equipment (i.e. camera and technical equipment) and software is maintained.
• To assist the club’s content and social media strategy
• Working knowledge of current video, audio and design production workflows.
• Strong camera operations and techniques.

The ideal candidate will have:

• The ability to edit with Final Cut Pro.
• Ability to work within a small team towards deadlines.

On the back of four straight defeats, Motherwell were looking to change the narrative around them with picking up a positive result against Dundee United in the cinch Premiership. 

After Connor Shields fired over the bar from close range after 20 minutes, Sondre Solholm would fire the steelmen ahead seconds later.

The Norwegian defender got on the end of Blair Spittal’s cross into the box, with the Dundee United keeper unable to keep the ball out the net.

Dundee United were reduced to ten men on 40 minutes, when former Motherwell man Tony Watt was sent off after a VAR check on a high tackle on Sean Goss.

The second half was less exciting, with Dundee United only having one chance which Liam Kelly comfortably saved.

The result was better than the performance according to Steven Hammell but it was a much needed boost for himself and his side as they moved into the top six.

Our loan boys continued their development with their respective clubs this weekend.

Max Johnston

It was a busy Saturday for Cove Rangers and Max Johnston, with Cove drawing 4-4 with Hamilton.

Max got a second assist in as many matches and played the full 90 minutes.

Scott Fox

Still recovering from a short illness, Scott Fox was named on the bench for Queen of the South as they took on Falkirk.

Falkirk won the game 3-1.

Robbie Mahon

Robbie Mahon was an unused sub for Dunfermline as they beat Kelty Hearts 2-1.

Ewan Wilson

Ewan Wilson started for Albion Rovers as they looked to pick up more points in League two to push up the table.

Taking on a Stenhousmuir side who were amongst the playoff positions, Albion Rovers battled well and had a narrow 2-1 lead going into the latter stages of the game.

With Stenhousemuir chasing the game, Ewan Wilson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area and stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity. The full back seen red and The Warriors scored from the subsequent penalty to snatch a point.

Daniel Hunter

Cumbernauld Colts took on Celtic B in the Lowland league on Saturday, with Daniel Hunter in the starting 11.

Despite going 2-0 down to Celtic, Cumbernauld continued to battle and ended up winning the match 4-2. Hunter played 79 minutes.

Logan Dunachie

It was a break from league action for East Kilbride, as they played Armadale Thistle in a friendly match at K-Park.

The game finished 4-4 with Logan Dunachie starting the game.

Motherwell fell to a narrow defeat in the capital on Sunday to Hearts, losing the game 1-0. 

Rebecca McAllister’s first half strike was the difference between to the two sides in a tightly contested SWPL encounter.

It was Motherwell who went close first, Kaela McDonald-Nguah’s free kick went over the bar from 25 yards after seven minutes.

The only goal of the game came after 12 minutes, a mix up in defence meant McAllister picked up the ball before finishing past Mutch to break the deadlock.

Mutch was called into action on 24 minutes when Georgia Timms raced through on goal. Standing firm 1v1, Mutch kept the strikers shot out with a smart save.

Timms caused more problems moments later, when she fired the ball across goal for a tap in before Gill Inglis managed to get back and clear.

After a poor showing in the first half, Motherwell brought on Katie Rice, Kodie Hay and Jemma Hughes in an attempt to change their fortunes.

It would be the latter who had a go on 77 minutes, a cutback fell to Hughes and she fired on target with the keeper spilling the ball but Motherwell had nobody following in.

Motherwell came closest to equalising in the dying moments of the game, after some neat play from back to front, Lauren Doran-Barr drilled a shot goalwards but see her effort come crashing off the inside of the post.

Motherwell secured a big three points in Dundee with a 0-1 win over Dundee United.

Sondre Solholm’s header proved to be enough against ten-men United after Tony Watt saw red for a tackle on Sean Goss.

Steven Fletcher went close first, with his bicycle effort going inches wide of Liam Kelly’s post.

Dundee United stopper Birighitti made a smart save from Connor Shields’ effort before the striker blazed a golden opportunity over the bar from seven yards. 

The Australian wasn’t nearly as strong for the Motherwell goal, though. Solholm’s header was planted straight at him, but his palm wasn’t strong enough and the ball looped over his head and over the line.

United were reduced to ten when after consulting the VAR monitor, Watt was given his marching orders for a high tackle on Sean Goss.

With ten men, United had most of the ball in the second half.

The best chance fell to Ian Harkes, when the American got on the end of a flowing United move down the left, but Liam Kelly denied him with a superb reaction save.

As the game drew to a close, Motherwell grabbed all three points which ended their run of four straight defeats. 

“It wasn’t the perfect performance.

“I want us to be better than that but today was about getting the three points and I’m delighted we’ve done that.”
