Flight and Arrival Logistics

• Vágar Airport (FAE): All international flights land here on the neighboring island.
• Transit to Capital: Tórshavn is a 45-minute drive from the airport. You can use the public Route 300 bus through the subsea tunnels or book an airport shuttle cab in advance.
• Local Currency: The Faroese króna is used (interchangeable with Danish Krone). The country is heavily cashless; debit and credit cards are accepted universally.

• Away Stand: Motherwell fans are allocated Sector A in the East Stand at Tórsvøllur.
• Walking Route: The stadium is 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles) from downtown Vágsbotnur harbour. Walk straight north up the gentle incline on R.C. Effersøes gøta.
• Stadium Entry: Turn left at the Svimjihøllin (Swimming Pool) bus stop to access the pedestrian path down to the Sector A away gates.
• Turnstile Timing: Gates open 75 minutes prior to kick-off at 6pm

Stadium Bag & Banner Policy

• Bag Size Limits: Small bags and traditional attire pouches are permitted up to 28.5cm x 17cm x 40cm. Large rucksacks are prohibited and there are no storage lockers at the venue.
• Banner Size Limits: Supporter flags and banners are permitted if they are under 2.0 meters x 1.5 meters.
• Banner Safety: All materials must be certified non-flammable. Rigid wooden or hard plastic flagpoles are strictly forbidden.
• Content Rules: Banners containing offensive, political, or commercial text are banned.

Weather, Food & Local Regulations

• Weather Clothing: Late July averages 10°C to 13°C. Sudden rain, thick fog, and wind are frequent, so windproof layers and waterproof coats are essential.
• Fan Gathering Hub: Most traveling supporters congregate around the historic Vágsbotnur harbour area, lined with local cafes and bars.
• Alcohol Regulations: Drinks over 5.8% ABV are sold exclusively in state-run Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins stores. Local bars serve standard domestic beers freely.

Motherwell supporters will be gathering in the Irish Pub Torshavn on matchday, which is around a 30-minute walk to the stadium. They will also be going back there after the match.

Motherwell’s Fortunes

The Steelmen take a two-goal lead into the second leg, as they look to progress in a European tie for the first time in six years. The winners of the tie will take on HJK Helsinki or Coleraine in the next round, with the Finnish side winning 5-0 in the first leg of their tie.

Martin Moormann and Lukas Fadinger provided two wonderful goals last Thursday night, with Alfred Johansson picking up a win in his first competitive match in charge.

The Steelmen were boosted by the return of Emmanuel Longelo, who came on as a second half substitute.

Opposition Report

Havnar Bóltfelag will come into this match knowing they’re still in the tie. European regulars, their record on home soil is much stronger to their away form.

HB are European regulars, having played in Europe, including this season, eight years in a row and 15 of the last 19 seasons. They have recorded notable wins over Red Bull Salzburg in 2010 and Maccabi Haifa in 2021 and drawn at home against the likes of Brøndby, Hajduk Split and HJK Helsinki in recent years, and a notable draw with Malmö in 2011.

The Faroese side have progressed through two European ties since 2014, a 6-3 aggregate win over Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar in 2014 and a 6-0 win over FK Budućnost Podgorica from Montenegro in 2021.

They’ll also be boosted with the return of former Motherwell man Moses Ebiye and midfielder Amidou Diop, who both missed the first leg due to Visa issues.

We have been drawn to face Stenhousemuir away at Ochilview in the Round of 16 of the Premier Sports Cup.

The tie will be place on the weekend of August 15/16.

Forward Morgan Anderson has joined the club on a permanent basis from Gartcairn. 

A product of Drumchapel United, Anderson soon joined partner club Partick Thistle – becoming the first player to make such a move through the pathway to first-team football at the club. 

The then 17-year-old became a consistent presence within the ranks of the Partick Thistle squad – impressing former Head Coach, Brian Graham. 

“I’m really pleased to have signed with the club,” Anderson said. 

“Motherwell have got a strong reputation of playing and developing younger players, and giving them opportunities of experience in the Scottish top-flight. 

“I’m ready to battle for a place in a really talented squad, and I can’t wait to get started.” 

Anderson has since developed in Lanarkshire with Gartcairn, impressing in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2. 

“We are delighted to welcome Morgan to the club,” Head Coach Iain Robinson added. 

“She is an extremely talented young footballer, who can add a new dynamic to our options in the squad. 

“We are looking forward to watching her development this season.” 

Midfielder Sophie Rutherford has completed a season-long loan deal from Rangers. 

The young midfielder joins fellow Rangers loanees Mia McArthur and Saoirse Coyle-Morrow in ML1 this summer. 

Rutherford has already gained a vast amount of first-team experience, featuring in successive loan spells for Queens Park in SWPL2. 

“I’m really excited to be here at Motherwell,” Rutherford said. 

“I obviously know Mia [McArthur] really well from Rangers, and she spoke so highly of the club, and were they were wanting to go this season. 

“I just knew then that I wanted to be a part of it.” 

Rutherford will be available for this afternoon’s encounter with Montrose. 

“We are excited to welcome Sophie to the club,” Head Coach Iain Robinson added. 

“For a young player, Sophie has already gained a strong level of senior experience, and we felt that she was more than ready to make the step into the top-flight. 

“We are looking forward to watching her in a Motherwell shirt this season.” 

The opening matchday of the 2026/27 domestic campaign is upon us, and the women of steel will welcome Montrose this weekend, as they contest the opening round of the Sky Sports Cup group stage at the Bumblebee Stadium at K-Park on Sunday.

Midfielder Ellie MacDonald has joined the club on a permanent basis following her recent departure from Queens Park this summer. 

The 2025-26 Queens Park Coaches Player of the Year will compete in the Scottish top-flight after supporting the Spiders to the Scottish Power Women’s Premier League Playoff Final last season. 

“I’m really excited by the opportunity to play for Motherwell,” MacDonald said. 

“After working with Iain previously, and understanding his style of play, I knew it was an opportunity that I simply couldn’t say no to. 

“I can’t wait to meet up with everyone and get started.” 

The 24-year-old became a standout performer in Glasgow last season, and has returned to play for Iain Robinson after previously working together whilst at Queens Park. 

“I’m delighted to welcome Ellie to the club,” Head Coach Iain Robinson added. 

“Ellie is a player that I’ve worked with previously, and she became an absolute standout for Queens Park last season. 

“She really adds a new dynamic to our midfield, and plenty of competition for places.” 

Midfielder Lucy Sinclair has returned to the club on a permanent basis following her recent departure from Partick Thistle. 

The 23-year-old returns to ML1 after previously departing the club in 2021 to pursue consistent first-team opportunities. 

After safely guiding local rivals, Hamilton Accies past the SWPL relegation-playoff’s, Sinclair soon made her mark in Glasgow – joining Partick Thistle in July 2023. 

Sinclair’s maiden campaign in Maryhill predictably ended in success, with the youngster named the Partick Thistle Young Player of the Year. The midfielder soon repeated the feat the following season, reclaiming the award after another impressive campaign in red and yellow. 

Her immense contributions were unfortunately cut short the following year, with an ACL injury against Dundee united ruling Sinclair out of action for the foreseeable future. 

“I’m really excited to be back at the club,” Sinclair said. 

“I feel like a completely different player and person from the one that last walked through the doors at Fir Park. 

“Last season was incredibly tough for myself, coping with a long-term injury, but I’m incredibly excited to be back on the pitch, and I can’t wait to get started.” 

Refreshed, recovered and ready to reclaim lost time, Sinclair returns to Lanarkshire, as Head Coach Iain Robinson’s fifth summer acquisition. 

“We’re very pleased to welcome Lucy back to the club,” head Coach Iain Robinson added. 

“It’s absolutely no surprise that Lucy achieved successive Young Player of the Year awards at partick Thistle. She has a lot of talent, and has an exceptional work ethic. 

“We are looking forward to watching her in claret and amber this season.” 

Sinclair will be available for selection in this weekend’s first competitive match in the Sky Sports League Cup.

The Motherwell Academy were front and centre as the Steelmen secured their first win in European competition since 2020. 

Over 3000 Motherwell fans left Fir Park last against Genk, full of optimism for the future as Mikey Booth and Robbie Hunter found the back of the net, as a team filled with academy players showed bravery and fight against the Belgian Pro League side.

Six days later, in the UEFA Conference League, 19-year-old Mikey Booth was handed his debut and first start by Alfred Johansson in front of a packed Fir Park crowd. Booth’s journey hasn’t been straight-forward to the first-team. Named the Academy Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season, the young midfielder’s season ended abruptly. Sustaining a serious knee injury that saw him sidelined for over a year, he had to remain patient as he sat on the sidelines waiting for the recovery to take place.

Had it not been for the ACL injury, who knows how many games he would have played for the Motherwell FC first-team. He was first named on a first-team bench back in January 2024, but sometimes the reward is worth the wait. And despite it being a high-pressure match, Booth showed everyone why he’s ready for the step-up as he went on to impress in the heart of the team. Booth even notched an assist on his debut, teeing up fellow midfielder Lukas Fadinger for the second goal of the evening.

Booth wasn’t the only MFC Academy star to make their first steps in claret and amber in a competitive match. Olly Whyte was subbed on in the final stages to make his first Motherwell appearance. He too was involved in first-team squads previously, having been named on the bench in December 2023. But Whyte has gone down a different route to this moment, enjoying incredibly successful loan spells with Cowdenbeath and Stenhousemuir over the last two seasons to build up his first-team experience. The 19-year-old has played close to 80 games combined for Cowdenbeath and Stenhousemuir and now can tick off his MFC debut following his introduction in the UEFA Conference League.

Finally, there was also a new club-record achieved as Motherwell picked up a crucial win. With the introduction of 17-year-old Lucas Weir, there was a third academy player making their first appearance, but Weir would also become the youngest Motherwell FC player to play UEFA competition. The young forward has been training with the first-team since the summer and joined Alfred Johansson’s squad in Denmark. Playing against both AGF Aarhus and Genk, Weir’s work rate and determination have ensured he has been rewarded. Subbed on in stoppage-time, Weir now takes his place in the record books.

The Academy players played a crucial role in the evening. Ewan Wilson started at full-back before being asked to fill in at centre-back during the second-half. The 21-year-old gave everything as he made his first start for the club since July 2025. Closing in on 50 appearances for the club, he is another player to have completed the journey to the first-team.

12 substitutes were named on Thursday night, and ten of them were Motherwell FC Academy players as Alfred Johansson continues to show his trust in the next generation of stars.

Exciting young defender, Olivia McStay has signed a permanent deal following her recent departure from Hamilton Accies.

McStay, 18, broke through the ranks at Celtic, and has been one of our most promising talents in Scotland. Despite an opportunity to continue with Celtic, McStay opted to receive senior first-team football as soon as possible, signing permanently for Hamilton Accies last year after spending the previous season on-loan.

The former Celtic academy prodigy is a third-generation footballing talent – following in the footsteps of her dad, Jock McStay who broke through the youth ranks at Fir Park before making his senior debut with the club in the 1980s.

Francis McStay being another notable family member with deep ties to ML1. Francis is amongst Motherwell’s top-15 record appearance holders, making 214-appearances for the club across eight years spanning the World War 1 Period.

The most recognised family member being Celtic’s third all-time appearance holder and Scotland legend, Paul McStay, but regardless of her illustrious family history, Olivia has been forging her own path in the game.

“I’m really excited to be here,” McStay said.

“The squad have really made me feel welcome, and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.”

McStay will be Head Coach, Iain Robinson’s fourth addition of the summer transfer window.

“We are really pleased to welcome Olivia to the squad,” Head Coach Iain Robinson noted.

“Despite her young age, she brings that experience from the last two-seasons, and plenty of space to develop the talent she has as a player.

‘We are excited, and will be looking forward to continuing her development this season.”

As Motherwell played their first competitive match of the season, over 7,700 arrived at Fir Park full of hope and nerves as the Steelmen looked to pick up their first win in UEFA competition since 2020. 

Havnar Bóltfelag from the Faroe Islands were the opponents, with the two sides facing off for a second time following a UEFA Cup meeting in 1994.

Alfred Johansson was experiencing his first competitive match in charge, and despite a number of players not involved due to injury, the 11 players selected pushed the opposition back into their own box during the early stages.

Summer signing Martin Moormann blasted home inside 15 minutes to make a bang on his debut, before Lukas Fadinger scored an equally brilliant goal in the second period.

The Steelmen now travel to the Faroe Islands with a two-goal advantage but know the tie is far from over.
