St Mirren are the visitors to Fir Park on Saturday, as both sides chase their respective end-of-season goals.

What’s at stake

Motherwell remain in a three-way fight for seventh place with St Johnstone and Livingston. The Perth Saints are one point ahead as things stand, with Livi four points behind.

St Mirren know a win will guarantee they can not finish bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership, although Dundee’s result can also dictate that regardless of what Oran Kearney’s men do in ML1.

Motherwell will travel to face Linfield as part of the pre-season programme for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Steelmen will make the trip to Windsor Park on Saturday 29 June. Kick off will be at 1.30pm.

Stephen Robinson’s side will be based in Belfast for their summer camp, and will take on two opponents as part of that trip.

A second friendly will be played three days previously on Wednesday, 26 June. The opponent and kick-off time will be announced ASAP.

Admission details will be announced shortly but both games will be open to fans who wish to make the trip over.

Jake Hastie is to leave Motherwell at the end of the 2018/19 season.

The 20-year-old forward has signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers and will move to Ibrox in the summer.

The two clubs will now try and agree a suitable compensation package that is acceptable to both parties.

A product of the Motherwell’s youth academy, Hastie has been with the club since the age of nine.

He has made 17 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.

David Turnbull and Jake Hastie have both been named on the shortlist for PFA Scotland’s Young Player of the Year.

The Motherwell pair have been recognised for their respective breakthrough season in 2018/19, named alongside Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson and Rangers’ Ryan Kent on the four-man list.

The winner will be revealed at an awards dinner on Sunday, 5 May.

Turnbull has been a standout performer in claret and amber, netting his 12th goal of the season at the weekend and receiving rave reviews from fans and the national media.

Hastie exploded onto the scene in late January for the ‘Well, netting seven goal in 14 appearances for the Steelmen.

Allan Campbell has been his usual consistent self throughout the month in midfield, helping to provide the solid base for the team to build.

Gboly Ariyibi has continued to terrorise full backs on the wing and also netted his first goal at Fir Park against Dundee.

James Scott is another youth academy product pushing his way into first team plans, and scored his first goal for the club in the victory over Dundee.

This is the Story of the Match from the win over Dundee.

Motherwell Football Club have secured the services of defender Jake Carroll for the next two seasons.

The Irish left-back will join from Cambridge United in the summer, adding further competition to the backline.

Carroll, 27, will officially move to Fir Park in June when his contract with United expires.

“Jake has great attributes which will bring a lot to the squad,” manager Stephen Robinson said of the signing.

“He’s quick and he’s a strong defender. But he will come here and have to earn the right to play, as we’ve got competition in his position.

“We’re making a lot of early progress in getting players signed, with Jake joining Declan Gallagher and Liam Polworth in committing early.

“We’re continuing to push to get our business done early, both with players we’ve offered contracts to and with others we have identified.”

Carroll started his professional career with St Patrick’s Athletic in 2011, spending two seasons with the League of Ireland and picking up experience in UEFA Europa League qualifying games against Karpaty Lviv and Hannover 96.

A six-figure move to Huddersfield Town followed, where he also spent time out on loan at Bury and briefly in the Scottish Premiership with Partick Thistle, making 13 appearances.

He then moved on to League Two side Hartlepool United, where he played alongside Trevor Carson and made 73 appearances across two seasons, before switching to Cambridge United in January 2017, where he has played 94 times.

“I’m looking forward to getting started in the summer with the club,” Carroll said.

“I know there’s a lot of competition for places, but I’m coming to be part of the squad and looking to establish myself.”

A late strike from David Turnbull, adding to his earlier goal and others from Gboly Ariyibi and James Scott, gave Motherwell a 4-3 victory against Dundee.
