After enduring a difficult afternoon at Ibrox two weeks ago, the focus is now solely on Saturday’s clash with Derek McInnes’ men.

Trevor Carson will miss an extended part of the season after developing deep vein thrombosis.

DVT is a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body, usually in the leg, groin or arm.

The Northern Ireland international took ill on Wednesday and received specialist care from the staff at University Hospital Wishaw.

The 30-year-old is now on the mend, but will require ongoing treatment that will rule him out for an as yet unspecified amount of time.

“We would like to thank all the staff at University Hospital Wishaw for their diligence and care, given it is the sort of medical emergency that can be and often is life threatening if not treated promptly and correctly,” manager Stephen Robinson said.

“It’s not your usual injury in that at this stage, his return time is not yet fully known and will obviously depend on a number of factors.

“As a club, we wish Trevor a very speedy recovery and will give him all the support he needs to get back fit and healthy as soon as possible.”

After enduring what was a stuttered start by their own high standards, Aberdeen have leapt in to life in recent weeks, and arrive at Fir Park on Saturday as one of the in-form sides in the Premiership.

Winning streak

After slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Hearts at Tynecastle, Aberdeen have gone on an impressive winning streak of four matches, scoring seven and conceding just once in the process.

That run all started with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rangers in the Betfred Cup semi-final, and has included victories over Kilmarnock, Hamilton and Hibernian.

The last three league wins have seen the Dons jump back in to the top six, and they’re now just five points behind league leaders Celtic.

Fir Park form

Bizarrely, neither Motherwell or Aberdeen picked up points on their own turf last term when the sides went head-to-head in the league.

Motherwell won 2-0 at Pittodrie, but either side of that win the Reds collected six points on their two trips to Fir Park.

That trend was bucked this term though, when Aberdeen picked up three points against the Steelmen at Pittodrie for the first time in a year and a half.

Rigid rearguard

Only Celtic have conceded fewer goals than Aberdeen in the top six as it stands.

Derek McInnes’ men have shipped just ten goals this term, 50% of which they conceded in their first five games.

Since then, they’ve gone on to collect four clean sheets – three in their last four games – and look a tricky side to break down.

The young Scots were holding out before two late goals in the 87th and 90th minutes, coupled with a red card for Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous, consigned them to defeat.

Gaël Bigirimana’s Burundi are closing in on a historic first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The midfielder featured as his country thumped South Sudan 5-2 at the weekend, putting them second in their qualification group with one game to play.
