Motherwell’s proposed Under 20s match with Inverness, due to take place tomorrow night at Fir Park, has been postponed due to fixture congestion.

The Steelmen have a first-team match against Dundee Utd scheduled for Wednesday and the decision has been made to re-arrange the match with the Highlanders at a later date still to be confirmed.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Football Partnership, the Environmental Key Fund and WREN Ltd, the astropitch at Fir Park has been upgraded with a fantastic new surface, which is now available for community use.

Over the summer the old pitch has been uplifted and replaced with a brand new Fifa approved surface which will be playable in all weathers.

Stuart McCaffrey from the Scottish Football Partnership dropped in to view the new facility and commented: “The Scottish Football Partnership are delighted to support Motherwell F.C’s Community Trust by part funding the new 3g training surface at Fir Park.

“The new facility will help participation, enjoyment and football development in the area and the SFP would like to wish everyone associated with the Community Trust every success in the future.”

Charlie Bennett General Manager of Motherwell FC Community trust echoed Stuart’s views and added “We are really pleased to have secured the funding to upgrade the facility. It has already proven very popular with local football clubs, and is regularly used for sports days and football festivals.”

A reminder for fans in possession of a ‘Match Abandoned’ voucher that it should be used to enter the re-arranged match this Wednesday night.

Entry for this game will be by Match Abandoned Voucher, pay at the turnstiles or by tickets purchased at the ticket office. 

If you weren’t able to attend the original match or weren’t in the ground at the time of the abandonment, then you can use Voucher 5 to enter the re-arranged.

2012/13 season ticket holders who were at the match but did not take a voucher will gain entry but only by contacting the club prior to the match and, ideally, not on the day of the game as the ticket office will obviously be very busy as no voucher from Season Ticket will be used.

Referee for Saturday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park is Brian Colvin.

Brian will be handling his very first Motherwell match of his four-year senior career in Scottish Football.

He is no stranger to our opponents or McDiarmid Park having handled Saints’ 2-1 win over Kilmarnock the last time Steve Lomas’ men were at home.

It’s been a busy start to the season for Brian. He has also been the man in the middle for the SPL clashes at both Inverness Caley (vs Kilmarnock) and Aberdeen (vs St Mirren).

Other notable games include Dundee’s Scottish Communities League Club tie against Queen’s Park at Hampden and Hamilton’s home defeat by Raith Rovers at the weekend.

He will be assisted on the day by Graham Chambers and Dougie Potter with Calum Murray on 4th Official duty.

Three Motherwell players were in loan action over the weekend in the Irn Bru Scottish Football League First Division.

Two players, JOSH WATT and NICKY DEVLIN, were involved in the same match as Dumbarton faced Airdrie United at The Bet Butler Stadium.

Josh started the match and scored the second goal as Airdrie ran out 4-3 winners in an entertaining match.

The winger delivered for Kieron Stallard who made it 2-1 in the 64th minute before bringing the visitors level, getting on the end of a neat Paul Di Giacomo square ball to smash home from close range.

Nicky was a lad sub for the Sons but was not able to stop his side losing two late goals.

JONATHAN PAGE was in action for Hamilton Accies as they lost 1-0 to Raith Rovers at New Douglas Park. The only goal of the game was a close range effort by Allan Walker just before the interval.

English midfielder Nicky Law was delighted to grab his second of the season, helping Motherwell to a fine win at McDiarmid Park.

The former Rotherham man, along with his midfield partner Keith Lasley, was instrumental in the win that put Motherwell back on track after a run of four successive defeats.

And the 24-year old felt it was the least the Steelmen deserved after an excellent, hard-working showing against the SPL’s form side.

He told MFC TV: “I am really pleased as obviously we’ve been on a sticky run in the past few weeks and we’ve not being scoring goals either.

“It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet but it was all about the team today and anybody watching could see how hard we worked as a team and you could see the determination from the first minute to the last in the lads to get the result.

“The goal is a bonus and I’ve been practicing that all week in training! I’ve dinked Darren and Lee a few times this week so I’m delighted but mostly with the three points!”

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall was thrilled with his side after picking up all three points against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park this afternoon.

The Steelmen made the best possible start with Jamie Murphy put them ahead inside 50 seconds before adding a second on the half hour.

A lovely Nicky Law goal added a exclamation point to the victory to hand McCall’s side their first three points since mid September.

And the former Scotland International couldn’t speak highly enough of his side.

“I think I was important to score first and we did early,” he told MFC TV after the match.

“We changed the system slightly by playing Jamie in behind and I am delighted with the all round team performance and of course to get the three goals and points.

“We don’t become a bad team overnight and likewise we don’t be become world beaters. We’ve got to go on with the same endeavour and desire on Wednesday.

“Throughout the team I thought the lads showed how they can play. In the Hearts and Hibs games we were ok but we are better than ok when we play and we proved that today. We’ve burst a few coupons today; people were probably looking at us thinking we have gone a bit soft but it is a great way to bounce back.

“It’s only three points but it’s stopped the rot. We’ll enjoy today and so will the fans. I am so pleased for them and the players as I thought they were great.”

‘Well boss Stuart McCall was left frustrated as Motherwell crashed to a disappointing 0-4 defeat to Hibs in a controversial night at Fir Park.

A number of decisions by the match officials went against McCall’s men and the visitors took full advantage and ran out deserved winners in the end.

McCall, whilst disappointed by his own sides defending and lack of a cutting edge, couldn’t hide his frustration at the way the game panned out.

“I think everything that could go against us did tonight,” he sighed.

“Obviously there were some massive decisions wrong but we made enough chance and how we didn’t score was only down to poor finishing.

“They get a penalty and score it; we get one and miss it. Then they go up the other end and get one which I don’t even think was a foul, never mind inside the box.

“I said at half-time if someone was to give us a point I’d have taken it. We’ve created enough chances and put them under pressure but it’s just so frustrating that a number of things have gone against us.

“It’s a long time to the next game but we’ve got to pick ourselves up. We’ve not become a bad team overnight although we do need to start finding the net and get back to winning ways.”
