Our loan boys continued their development with their respective clubs this weekend.

Max Johnston

It was a busy Saturday for Cove Rangers and Max Johnston, with Cove drawing 4-4 with Hamilton.

Max got a second assist in as many matches and played the full 90 minutes.

Scott Fox

Still recovering from a short illness, Scott Fox was named on the bench for Queen of the South as they took on Falkirk.

Falkirk won the game 3-1.

Robbie Mahon

Robbie Mahon was an unused sub for Dunfermline as they beat Kelty Hearts 2-1.

Ewan Wilson

Ewan Wilson started for Albion Rovers as they looked to pick up more points in League two to push up the table.

Taking on a Stenhousmuir side who were amongst the playoff positions, Albion Rovers battled well and had a narrow 2-1 lead going into the latter stages of the game.

With Stenhousemuir chasing the game, Ewan Wilson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area and stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity. The full back seen red and The Warriors scored from the subsequent penalty to snatch a point.

Daniel Hunter

Cumbernauld Colts took on Celtic B in the Lowland league on Saturday, with Daniel Hunter in the starting 11.

Despite going 2-0 down to Celtic, Cumbernauld continued to battle and ended up winning the match 4-2. Hunter played 79 minutes.

Logan Dunachie

It was a break from league action for East Kilbride, as they played Armadale Thistle in a friendly match at K-Park.

The game finished 4-4 with Logan Dunachie starting the game.

Motherwell fell to a narrow defeat in the capital on Sunday to Hearts, losing the game 1-0. 

Rebecca McAllister’s first half strike was the difference between to the two sides in a tightly contested SWPL encounter.

It was Motherwell who went close first, Kaela McDonald-Nguah’s free kick went over the bar from 25 yards after seven minutes.

The only goal of the game came after 12 minutes, a mix up in defence meant McAllister picked up the ball before finishing past Mutch to break the deadlock.

Mutch was called into action on 24 minutes when Georgia Timms raced through on goal. Standing firm 1v1, Mutch kept the strikers shot out with a smart save.

Timms caused more problems moments later, when she fired the ball across goal for a tap in before Gill Inglis managed to get back and clear.

After a poor showing in the first half, Motherwell brought on Katie Rice, Kodie Hay and Jemma Hughes in an attempt to change their fortunes.

It would be the latter who had a go on 77 minutes, a cutback fell to Hughes and she fired on target with the keeper spilling the ball but Motherwell had nobody following in.

Motherwell came closest to equalising in the dying moments of the game, after some neat play from back to front, Lauren Doran-Barr drilled a shot goalwards but see her effort come crashing off the inside of the post.

Motherwell secured a big three points in Dundee with a 0-1 win over Dundee United.

Sondre Solholm’s header proved to be enough against ten-men United after Tony Watt saw red for a tackle on Sean Goss.

Steven Fletcher went close first, with his bicycle effort going inches wide of Liam Kelly’s post.

Dundee United stopper Birighitti made a smart save from Connor Shields’ effort before the striker blazed a golden opportunity over the bar from seven yards. 

The Australian wasn’t nearly as strong for the Motherwell goal, though. Solholm’s header was planted straight at him, but his palm wasn’t strong enough and the ball looped over his head and over the line.

United were reduced to ten when after consulting the VAR monitor, Watt was given his marching orders for a high tackle on Sean Goss.

With ten men, United had most of the ball in the second half.

The best chance fell to Ian Harkes, when the American got on the end of a flowing United move down the left, but Liam Kelly denied him with a superb reaction save.

As the game drew to a close, Motherwell grabbed all three points which ended their run of four straight defeats. 

“It wasn’t the perfect performance.

“I want us to be better than that but today was about getting the three points and I’m delighted we’ve done that.”

Here at Motherwell FC we recognize the importance of being alert to the inequalities that persist due to racism. A recent SRtRC survey revealed 46% of staff are aware of racist bullying or discrimination in Scottish schools, while 66.4% are aware of pupils expressing misconceptions, stereotypes, or negative attitudes that are racist. 

Chris Priestley, from Show Racism the Red Card had this to say; “We are delighted with the support for anti-racism that exists within Scottish football and are very proud of our upcoming match actions.

“However the work must continue. We call on our supporters to continue to challenge racism. It is a shared responsibility across the game, from dressing rooms to boardrooms, and from stadiums to social media, to ensure that an anti-racism ethos is maintained throughout the year.”

“The club is once again delighted to support this years Show Racism the Red Card campaign,” manager Steven Hammell said.

“We have to continue the message that discrimination is not welcome in our beloved sport, nor in society, and I feel supporting such an important cause is vital to push that message.

“This is a community driven club and we will always welcome everyone to be part of it.”

Motherwell stands with everyone who has had to endure racial prejudice in all areas of their lives. We condemn all forms of racism and any racist behaviour will not be tolerated at our club.

Football is a sport that is loved across the world and football matches should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, of all backgrounds. Education is the key and Motherwell FC will support Show Racism the Red Card to ensure Scotland is equipped with the tools to challenge and eradicate racism from football and society.

Manager Steven Hammell wants to see his side start at their very best from the get go tomorrow in the cinch Premiership against Dundee United.

With Joe Efford sidelined for months, attacking options are light up top but the boss remains confident in his sides’ ability and thinks the weeks preparation for this match, can only benefit the team.

Blair Spittal says the team have been analysing their recent matches closely, and despite what he described as not their best performances, feels a positive atmosphere is still present in the dressing room.

Motherwell are in the capital in their latest SWPL match against Hearts on Sunday 30 October. 

Kick off is 3:15pm at the Oriam.

Hearts are currently fourth in the table with 12 points after seven games.

They have picked up three wins in their last four SWPL matches.

Motherwell were in Sky Sports cup quarter final action against Rangers in their last outing.

Despite a strong first half showing, Rangers came away with a 4-0 victory.

A new community defibrillator has been unveiled at Fir Park Stadium.

The club wanted to install the defibrillator after a near miss a few weeks ago and thanks to the support of the Well Society, it is now a reality.

A local nearby resident ran into medical trouble and although club staff provided support with our own portable defibrillator, it highlighted the requirement to have one available for everyone to use in an emergency at any point of the day or night.

After the Well Society made funds available, the Kieran McDade Foundation, a local charity, assisted the club in purchasing the equipment.

Martin Holmes, one of the founders of the Foundation, joined representatives from Motherwell FC, the Well Society and the Scottish Ambulance Service to see the equipment now ready for public use.

Tom Feely, co-chair of the Well Society, said: “It’s important for the Society to represent the interests of the community in the running of the club. If putting the defibrillator outside the ticket office at Fir Park can save one life, it’s worth it. Anyone can use a defibrillator, and we need to make sure everyone knows it’s there.”

The defibrillator is sited outside Motherwell FC’s ticket office, on the wall of the Chapman Building on Firpark Street.

Joe Efford will miss several months after a scan revealed a tear in his quad that will require immediate surgery.

The American wide man was starting to hit a rich vein of form, but a training ground injury the day before the Rangers game at Fir Park has ruled him out.

The 26-year-old went under the knife on Tuesday (25 October) and he isn’t expected to return to first-team action until into the new year.

“It’s a big blow for Joe as his recent performances have been really impressive,” Steven Hammell said.

“We were just starting training and Joe felt something in his thigh after taking a shot. Sadly, it was worse than we feared, and he has now had surgery to correct it.

“We will support him as much as we can and look forward to getting him back in 2023.”

Meanwhile Louis Moult saw a specialist last week on a troublesome ankle issue. He has had a small procedure this week, with the hope it will allow him to play again within the next week to ten days.

Long-term absentees Nathan McGinley and Jake Carroll are making progress, but neither are expected back for the foreseeable future. Rolando Aarons is currently with his parent club.
