    Andy Goram (1964 – 2022)

    Andy Goram (1964 – 2022)

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former captain Andy Goram.

Affectionally known as ‘The Goalie’, Goram joined Motherwell in January 1999 after a distinguished and trophy-laden seven years at Rangers, where he collected ten winners medals and won both the PFA and Football Writers Player of the Year awards.

Andy would regain his top form again at Fir Park, prompting boss Billy Davies to make him captain. He would play 69 times in claret and amber, before leaving the club in March 2001 to answer an SOS call from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Goram retired at the end of the 2003-04 campaign, bringing to an end a career that totalled over 700 games for 11 different clubs, 43 caps for Scotland and entry to the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. After hanging up his gloves, he had numerous coaching roles at several different clubs before being diagnosed with terminal cancer in May of this year.

He passes aged 58 away having made an indelible mark on the Scottish game and will be widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers this country has ever seen.

“Everyone at Motherwell, and the broad Scottish football family, will mourn the loss of a true great of our game,” Chairman Jim McMahon said.

“He was a larger-than-life character both on and off the field, but his ability as a goalkeeper was second to none. His contribution at Motherwell will obviously be overshadowed by his time at other clubs, but he was a big presence Fir Park for the two years he was here.

“The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Motherwell FC are with Andy’s family and close friends at this very sad time.”

    Jubillee coming to Fir Park

Celebrate the start of the school summer holidays with our School’s Out event at Fir Park.

Providing the entertainment this year will be Country pop band Jubillee.

This incredible twosome could well be the next big thing to emerge from Scotland and ironically that could well be because of the Pandemic.

From playing to a few hundred people on Facebook every Sunday from their home in Motherwell due to COVID restrictions, to being courted by one of the world’s top producers of country music in the space of just 18 months, the story goes from strength to strength. Justine & Billy will travel to Nashville later this year to start work with Kent Wells – the musical director to Dolly Parton.

With showcase concerts already lined up in Nashville this summer, it certainly looks like being an incredible rise to fame for this amazing Country Pop duo.

Following Jubillee will be karaoke and music from DJ Jammin Jimmy.

    Introducing our 2022/23 home kit

    Introducing our 2022/23 home kit

Introducing the Motherwell FC home kit for the 2022/23 season.

    You can order yours now.

This year’s kit is inspired by our history. A modern take on a 1980’s classic, 40 years on.

With vertical claret bands and the amber front and centre, it is purely our true colours throughout.

The shorts are made up of claret, with amber stripes going down each side. The amber socks also come with three claret bands at the top.

With this kit, it’s all about the finer detail. Our refreshed Motherwell badge will appear on it for the first time.

Across the edges of each vertical panel, we have a subtle pattern going across the edges to modernise the classic look and feel of the top.

Paycare will again be our main sponsor. We also continue to raise awareness of a vital message close to the club’s heart, with North Lanarkshire Suicide Prevention on our sleeve for another season.

TCL will also remain our main sponsor on the shorts.

The kit is on sale now, with infant kits due in stock week commencing 20 June.

Motherwell FC Community Trust UEFA Grow Social Return on Investment Report 2021

Motherwell FC Community Trust UEFA Grow Social Return on Investment Report 2021

A little more than ten years after it was established, Motherwell Football Club Community Trust has published a Social Return on Investment report which shows the true value of its work to the local community.

Created by UEFA, European football’s governing body, the model was created to provide National Associations with a tool to understand the value of football participation at all levels.

From grassroots and community football clubs to national and government levels, the report aims to provide tangible evidence of how football can serve to improve the lives of those living within Scottish society.

The model sees experts from educational institutions across Europe assist with the research into the benefits of grassroots participation, including the University of Birmingham and Malmo University.

The report’s findings have highlighted the excellent work the Trust has done and what it has contributed to the local community and people. In 2021, a year disrupted by lockdowns, restricted numbers and travel, the Trust brought benefits of £13.64m to the local community.

The figure is broken down into three sub sections:

    •  £8,560,000 economic impact of social benefits
    •  £387,074 direct contributions to the economy
    • £4,692,000 healthcare savings from football participation

“At Motherwell we are consistently trying to assist our community and the people in our area in any way we can” Chief Executive Alan Burrows said.

“These findings show the local community is benefitting from the work the Trust does and I think it shows what an excellent job Dawn and the Community Trust staff do.

“It is excellent to see how the Motherwell FC Community Trust is also helping our local community through the power of football.

“I am very proud of what they have achieved and who they have helped, in what has been a challenging two years for everyone.”

Motherwell is renowned in Scottish football for its community focus and as a fan-owned club the work is central to all departments.

“Football plays a major role in supporting local communities but it can be difficult to place a monetary value on that contribution,” Dawn Middleton General Manager of the Community Trust said.

“Working with partners at UEFA and the Scottish Football Association we are proud to be launching this report which shows the contribution of Motherwell FC Community Trust to our local community in 2021.

“We hope that the findings will help us to grow our work with our partners and face the challenges of the current economic situation.”

    Suicide Prevention fans survey

    Suicide Prevention fans survey

Calling all supporters. Mental health and suicidal thoughts can affect anyone.

There can be stigma attached to suicide and that means many people feel uncomfortable talking about it. We need to change that and encourage people to talk more openly about it to help save lives.

As a community club, we are proud to work with Suicide Prevention North Lanarkshire to help raise awareness and offer our support to those who need it. Through this partnership, we help raise awareness by carrying the message on our strips, in our match programmes, through our social media and using pitch side helpline numbers.

We need to help the partnership understand the impact that the campaign is having and to see how we can build and improve upon it. We all have a part to play in preventing the tragedy of suicide.

Please take a couple of minutes to complete our short survey so we can help tackle suicide together. The survey is for people aged over 16 years old.
