Well Society Board

Sean Baillie

Sean is a season ticket holder in the John Hunter stand and has followed Motherwell home and away since he was young, when his uncle bought him a half season ticket for Christmas more than 20 years ago.
He is a trade union organiser with a decade of experience in growing self-sustaining membership organisations. He hopes that his experience can help further member engagement within the Society and continue to grow our model in a way that will complement the efforts of the club staff both on and off the park.

Douglas Dickie (Co-Chair)

Douglas is originally from Motherwell but now stays in Largs, where he runs his own quantity surveying practice. He is currently the co-chair of the Well Society and sits as a main Board Director at the club. He has served both positions from 2016.

Douglas has been a Well Society member since 2012 and has supported the club since his first game in 1967. His father, Bill, previously served on the club board in various roles as director, vice chair and chair for a period of some 32 years, a record at the time.

He was part of the group who, on behalf of the club, were instrumental in negotiating the transition from the previous owner into full fan ownership in 2016, a feat of which he is particularly proud given the complexity and success of the transition.

Douglas sees his role(s) within his boyhood club as an honour and a privilege and has many great memories of supporting the Well, including Texaco Cup ties against Spurs, Stoke, Fulham and the like whose teams included the likes of Gordon Banks, Martin Chivers and Bobby Moore. He also relishes his memories of his trips to Spain, Iceland, Nancy and, more recently, Israel and Ireland. However, his greatest memory was lifting the Scottish Cup in 1991 and the day after … being on the open top bus with the team parading the cup!

Maureen Downie

Maureen was first introduced to Motherwell FC way back in 1990, just as the Scottish Cup Winning team of 1991 was being shaped by Tommy McLean….what a season that was!

Over the years she has followed the team, both home and away when work and life allowed (even during a foray living in the wilds of Paisley for almost two decades!). A season ticket holder in the John Hunter Stand, she has been known to bring along and indoctrin…sorry “introduce” younger family members and overseas visitors to the joys of supporting Motherwell.

Having helped with Keith Lasley’s Testimonial year and looking to become more involved in ensuring the long-term goals of the club, she stood for and was elected to The Well Society Board in December 2015.

She currently works as a Training Consultant and Co-Ordinator, travelling across the length and breadth of the UK working in the IT Healthcare Sector.

Tom Feely (Co-Chair)

Tom is someone who likes to keep himself on the go – be it family, work, or football. His love of football and all things Motherwell, meant it was an easy decision to get involved with The Well Society at its inception and work with so many people to help ensure our club’s future.

Sitting on the Board of Directors of the Club, The Community Trust and The Well Society, Tom has and overview of all aspects of Motherwell FC. He’s proud of the impact the club, with its reach beyond the pitch, has made to our local community.

As a Chartered Accountant, with his own business, Tom’s skills have been utilised exactly you might expect overseeing the fiscal governance of The Well Society, providing professional guidance and due diligence, ensuring the Society’s finances are managed effectively, in line with our objectives.

He is a passionate advocate of fan ownership and is immensely proud of what has been achieved over the past few years.

Jason Henderson

Jay is a Policy & Public Affairs Officer in the voluntary sector, having formerly worked as an MP’s Parliamentary Assistant. A Motherwell supporter since his first game in February 1991 aged five, Jay is a season ticket holder in the John Hunter Stand and has been a member of the Well Society since 2011, being elected to the Well Society Board in 2017. Away from Fir Park, Jay is also a keen follower of the Scotland men’s national side both home and away.

Amber Johnstone

Amber has been a Motherwell fan pretty much since birth (aptly named!) and has been a season ticket holder in the John Hunter Stand since she was four-years-old. Some of her fondest memories come from Fir Park. She joined the Well Society in 2011 and was elected to the Board in 2023.

Amber has worked in Human Resources for a few years, mainly within the Public Sector and believes the skills and knowledge gained will help the Well Society progress with its business aims, as well as ensuring we adhere to the guiding principles of Fan Ownership.

Amber is passionate about the fan-ownership model and believes we can continue to build on the success we have already achieved.

Markus Schieren

Markus hails from Germany, where he grew up playing and following football from a very young age. A big fan of the German football culture, he has a background working in multiple clubs in Germany. Markus first fell in love with Motherwell FC in 2002 when he came over to Scotland on holiday to see one of his best friends – player Dirk Lehmann. His week in Lanarkshire left an impression and, when he moved to Scotland in June 2004, one of his first acts was to buy a season ticket…right next to Tam Cowan.

With his background in German football, paired with his career in sales, marketing and team management Markus believes he’s well placed to help the Well Society to thrive and grow. On the board since 2015, Markus notes moving to full fan ownership as an achievement he’s particularly proud of. He enjoys meeting people and likes a challenge. His focus is on providing the best support possible so that the Well Society can realise its potential.

Philip Speedie

Philip’s first Motherwell game was back in November 1994; a midweek draw with Dundee United under the Fir Park floodlights. He became a season ticket holder for the first time in 1998 taking his seat in the then East Stand. He went onto join the ranks of the Fir Park Corner supporters’ team for the team’s first game in 2001. He also spent time on the board of the Motherwell Supporters Trust. He has been the club’s Stadium Announcer since 2013.

Philip is a firm believer that supporter and community ownership is the best possible model for our club and was elected to the Well Society board in 2023. He works as a project manager in the financial services industry. In his spare time, he enjoys walking and playing football – when his knees allow.

Derek Watson

Derek has been coming to Fir Park regularly for just shy of three decades since his Dad dragged him along as a toddler back in the early- mid 90s. A season ticket holder in the John Hunter Stand, Derek can often be found in the end section trying to bring more colour and noise to the match-day experience.

In a professional capacity Derek specialises in Events, Fundraising and Media; with his work mainly focussed around charitable or membership-led organisations.

Away from Fir Park, Derek is a keen musician – playing in a band called The Banter Thiefs, and also hosts his own podcast.
